🔧 Yukon - Front Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades restores clear visibility in rain and reduces streaking and chatter. On your Yukon, the blades attach to the wiper arms with a common “J-hook” style connector that releases with a small tab.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep hands clear of the hinge; the spring-loaded wiper arm can snap down.
  • ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield so the metal arm can’t chip the glass if it slips.
  • ⚠️ Make sure the wipers are OFF and the ignition is OFF before lifting the arms.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Clean towel
  • Step stool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Driver: 22", Passenger: 22" - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Confirm the wiper arms are in their “parked” (down) position before lifting them.
  • Lay a clean towel on the lower windshield area as protection.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Use a step stool if needed to reach comfortably.
  • Lift one wiper arm away from the windshield until it stays up on its own.
  • Slide a clean towel under the arm on the glass. Prevents chips if it falls.

Step 2: Remove the old wiper blade (J-hook release)

  • Rotate the blade so it sits roughly 90° to the wiper arm (makes the latch easier to access).
  • Find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm (at the “hook”).
  • Press the tab with your thumb, then slide the blade downward toward the base of the arm to unhook it.
  • Once it’s free, remove the blade completely.

Step 3: Install the new wiper blade

  • Remove packaging from the new blade and verify size: 22".
  • Line up the new blade’s connector with the wiper arm’s J-hook.
  • Slide the blade into the hook until you hear/feel a solid “click.”
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place. If it moves, re-seat it.

Step 4: Lower the wiper arm safely

  • Hold the wiper arm firmly and remove the clean towel.
  • Lower the arm slowly until the blade rests on the windshield.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front wiper blade (also 22").

✅ After Repair

  • Start the vehicle and test wipers on LOW, HIGH, and WASH.
  • Check that both blades wipe smoothly without skipping, streaking, or hitting the windshield trim.
  • If there’s chatter, clean the windshield with glass cleaner and a microfiber towel.
