🔧 Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Sierra is a quick maintenance job that restores visibility in rain and spray. The front blades use a standard hook-style arm, so the job is simple and does not require special calibration or battery disconnect.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off and keep the wiper switch off before lifting the arms.
  • Lift one wiper arm at a time so it does not snap back onto the glass.
  • Protect the windshield with a folded towel in case the arm slips.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Clean microfiber towel
  • Safety glasses
  • Gloves

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground with the ignition off.
  • Make sure the wipers are fully at rest at the bottom of the windshield.
  • Place a towel on the windshield near the arm you are working on.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use your hand to carefully lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Lift it only as far as needed to access the blade.
  • Do not let the arm drop.

Step 2: Release the old blade

  • Use your fingers to press the small release tab where the blade connects to the hook.
  • Slide the blade downward to unhook it from the arm.
  • Remove the blade from the arm.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Use your hand to align the new 22" blade with the hook on the wiper arm.
  • Slide the hook into the blade connector until it clicks into place.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it is locked.

Step 4: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Use your hand to lift the passenger-side wiper arm.
  • Remove the old blade using the same release-tab method.
  • Install the new 22" blade and confirm it is fully locked.

Step 5: Test the wipers

  • Lower both arms gently onto the windshield.
  • Turn the ignition on and run the wipers with washer fluid.
  • Check that both blades sweep smoothly and do not streak or chatter.

✅ After Repair

  • Inspect both blades for even contact across the glass.
  • Wipe the windshield clean to remove old rubber debris and dirt.
  • Replace wipers in pairs for the best performance.
