🔧 F-150 - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your F-150 is a quick maintenance job that improves visibility in rain and spray. The blades use a simple hook-style attachment, so you can do this with no special scan tools or vehicle disassembly.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Make sure the ignition is off before lifting the wiper arms.
  • Lift one wiper arm at a time so it does not snap back onto the glass.
  • Protect the windshield with a towel if the arm slips from your hand.
  • Do not let the bare wiper arm hit the glass.
  • No battery disconnect is required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Safety glasses
  • Mechanic gloves

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition off.
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Make sure the wipers are in the parked position.
  • Place a towel on the windshield under the wiper arm as a safety cushion.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm

  • Use your hand to gently lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Raise it only as far as needed to reach the blade.
  • Hold the arm firmly.

Step 2: Remove the old blade

  • Locate the release tab on the old wiper blade adapter.
  • Press the tab and slide the blade down and out of the hook on the arm.
  • If needed, use a microfiber towel for a better grip on the old blade.

Step 3: Install the new blade

  • Align the new 22" blade with the wiper arm hook.
  • Slide the hook into the adapter until it clicks into place.
  • Gently tug the blade to confirm it is locked.
  • Listen for a solid click.

Step 4: Lower the arm carefully

  • Lower the wiper arm slowly back onto the windshield.
  • Do not let it drop or snap down.

Step 5: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat the same removal and installation steps for the passenger-side wiper blade.
  • Install the new 22" blade and verify it locks securely.

Step 6: Test the wipers

  • Turn the ignition on.
  • Run the washer and wipers for one cycle.
  • Check for smooth movement, proper sweep, and no chatter.

✅ After Repair

  • Confirm both blades park correctly at the bottom of the windshield.
  • Check that the blades clear water evenly on both sides.
  • If the blades streak, recheck that they are fully seated.
