🔧 Expedition - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

Replacing the front wiper blades on your Expedition is a quick maintenance job that restores clear visibility in rain. You’ll remove the old blades from the wiper arms and click new blades on in their place.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.25-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and keep hands clear of the wiper linkage.
  • ⚠️ Put a towel on the windshield so the bare wiper arm can’t snap down and crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Do not force the wiper arm past its normal lift range.
  • Battery disconnect is not required.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Microfiber towel
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Measuring tape
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Lift each front wiper arm up away from the glass until it stays up on its own.
  • Place a microfiber towel on the windshield under each wiper arm.
  • If unsure on size, measure the blade length first.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Measure the wiper blades

  • Use a measuring tape to measure the rubber wiping edge end-to-end on the driver blade.
  • Use the measuring tape to measure the passenger blade.
  • Buy matching lengths and the correct attachment style for your Expedition.

Step 2: Position the wiper arm

  • Lift the driver-side wiper arm away from the windshield.
  • Keep the microfiber towel under the arm to protect the glass.

Step 3: Release the old blade from the wiper arm

  • Find the small release tab/clip where the blade connects to the arm (usually a “J-hook” style hook connection).
  • If the tab is stiff, use a small flathead screwdriver to gently press the release tab. (A flathead screwdriver is a small, straight-tip screwdriver used to pry or press clips.)
  • Slide the blade down toward the base of the arm to unhook it, then remove the blade.

Step 4: Install the new blade

  • Align the new blade’s connector with the wiper arm hook/connector.
  • Push the blade into place until you hear/feel it click and it can’t slide back off.
  • Gently tug the blade with your hand to confirm it’s locked.

Step 5: Lower the wiper arm carefully

  • Remove the microfiber towel.
  • Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield slowly, by hand.

Step 6: Repeat on the passenger side

  • Repeat Steps 2–5 for the passenger-side blade.
  • Replace both blades together for even wiping.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn ignition ON and run the front wipers on low speed with washer fluid.
  • Confirm there’s no streaking, chattering, or the blade coming loose.
  • If the blade chatters, clean the windshield and rubber edge with a damp microfiber towel.
