🔧 Savana - Front Windshield Wiper Blade Replacement

You’ll remove the old wiper blades from the wiper arms and snap new blades into the same hook-style connector. Fresh blades improve visibility and reduce streaking and chatter.

Assumption: Most Savana vans use two same-length front blades (commonly 22"). Match the new blades to the length printed on your old blades or measure them.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.2-0.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Keep fingers clear of the hinge point on the wiper arm; it can pinch.
  • ⚠️ Don’t let the bare wiper arm snap onto the windshield; it can crack the glass.
  • ⚠️ Turn the key off and make sure wipers are parked before lifting the arms.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver
  • Clean shop towel

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front wiper blades - Match existing length (commonly 22" & 22") - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your Savana on level ground and turn the ignition OFF.
  • Confirm the wipers are in the “parked” position (down at the bottom of the windshield).
  • Place a clean shop towel on the lower windshield area as a cushion, just in case the arm slips.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Lift the wiper arm safely

  • Lift one wiper arm away from the windshield until it holds itself up.
  • Keep one hand on the arm the whole time so it can’t snap back.

Step 2: Release the old blade from the hook

  • Rotate the wiper blade so it sits more “sideways” to the wiper arm (this gives you room to unhook it).
  • Find the small release tab where the blade connects to the arm.
  • Press the tab with your thumb. If it’s stuck, gently help it with a small flat-blade screwdriver (don’t force it).
  • Slide the blade down and out of the J-hook to remove it.
  • Tip: Wiggle while sliding to unstick.

Step 3: Install the new blade onto the J-hook

  • Make sure the new blade has the correct connector installed (most are “J-hook” style).
  • Slide the new blade connector onto the J-hook until it clicks/locks.
  • Gently tug on the blade to confirm it’s locked in place.

Step 4: Set the arm back down gently

  • Lower the wiper arm back onto the windshield carefully.
  • Repeat Steps 1–4 for the other side.

Step 5: Clean the windshield edge

  • Wipe the lower windshield area with a clean shop towel to remove grit that can tear up new blades.

✅ After Repair

  • Start your Savana and test wipers on LOW and HIGH for smooth, quiet movement.
  • Test the washer spray and confirm the blades clear evenly without streaks.
  • If a blade chatters, clean the glass again and re-check that the blade is fully clicked into the hook.

💰 DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $40-$90 (parts + labor)

DIY Cost: $20-$60 (parts only)

You Save: $20-$30 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.5 hours.
