  • If your window is stuck partway down, tape the glass securely before removing the regulator.

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and fully close the window if it still moves.
  • Turn the ignition off and disconnect the negative battery cable.
  • If the window is stuck open, tape the glass to the door frame before disassembly.
  • Have a helper nearby if the glass is loose or partially attached.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the front door trim panel

  • Use a trim panel removal tool to pry off the switch panel and trim covers.
  • Remove the screws with a Phillips screwdriver and 10mm socket as equipped.
  • Lift and release the door panel clips carefully, then disconnect the electrical connectors.
  • Work slowly to avoid broken clips.

Step 2: Remove the vapor barrier

  • Use a trim panel removal tool to peel back the plastic vapor barrier.
  • Keep it intact so it can be reused.
  • If the adhesive is damaged, plan to reseal it during reassembly.

Step 3: Position and secure the glass

  • Reconnect the battery briefly if needed and use the window switch to move the glass until the regulator access holes line up.
  • Disconnect the battery again.
  • Use painter's tape to hold the glass in the fully raised position.
  • Do not let the glass hang loose.

Step 4: Disconnect the glass from the regulator

  • Use a 10mm socket to remove the glass mounting bolts or fasteners through the access openings.
  • Support the glass with one hand while removing the last fastener.
  • Carefully separate the glass from the regulator and keep it taped in place.

Step 5: Remove the regulator and motor assembly

  • Use a 12mm socket to remove the regulator mounting bolts.
  • Unplug the window motor electrical connector.
  • Rotate and maneuver the regulator assembly out through the large service opening in the door.
  • Torque on reassembly: tighten regulator and glass fasteners to factory specification.

Step 6: Install the new regulator

  • Use the 12mm socket to position the new regulator into the door opening.
  • Start all bolts by hand first, then tighten them evenly.
  • Reconnect the motor connector.
  • Torque on reassembly: tighten mounting bolts to factory specification.

Step 7: Reattach the glass

  • Use the 10mm socket to reinstall the glass fasteners.
  • Remove the painter's tape only after the glass is fully secured.
  • Make sure the glass sits evenly in the tracks.
  • Torque on reassembly: tighten glass fasteners to factory specification.

Step 8: Test the window movement

  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Use the window switch to run the glass up and down several times.
  • Watch for smooth travel, proper alignment, and no binding.
  • If needed, slightly loosen and realign before final tightening.

Step 9: Reinstall the door panel

  • Press the vapor barrier back into place using the original adhesive or butyl tape.
  • Reconnect all electrical connectors.
  • Align the panel clips and press the door panel into place.
  • Reinstall all screws and trim pieces with the Phillips screwdriver and 10mm socket.

✅ After Repair

  • Cycle the window fully open and fully closed several times.
  • Check that the auto-up and auto-down functions still work if equipped.
  • Listen for rubbing, clicking, or popping noises from the door.
  • Confirm the door panel sits flush and all switches work.
