📋 Before You Begin

• Park on level ground, shift to Park, and turn the ignition off.
• Lower the window until you can access the glass-to-regulator fasteners through the door access holes (if the window still moves).
• Use a 10mm socket to disconnect the negative battery cable and isolate it so it can’t spring back.
• Have painter’s tape ready to hold the glass to the door frame.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Remove the front door trim panel

• Use a trim removal tool set (plastic) to carefully pop off the trim pieces around the handle/armrest (work slowly to avoid cracking).
• Remove the visible screws using a 7mm socket and/or Phillips screwdriver #2 (locations vary by door trim pieces).
• Use a trim removal tool set (plastic) to release the panel clips around the perimeter, then lift the panel up and off the window ledge.
• Disconnect the electrical connectors using a pick tool (small) to lift locking tabs if needed. Support panel so wiring isn’t strained.

Step 2: Remove the vapor barrier (water shield)

• Use a flat-blade screwdriver (small) and your hands to peel the vapor barrier back slowly.
• If the butyl adhesive is damaged or won’t reseal, plan to use butyl tape during reassembly.

Step 3: Secure the window glass

• Raise the glass by hand to the full-up position if it’s loose (or leave it up if it’s already up).
• Use painter’s tape (1.5" to 2") across the top of the door frame and onto the glass in multiple strips to hold it in place.
• If you can’t access the glass clamps, you may need to temporarily reconnect the window switch, reconnect the battery, move the glass, then disconnect the battery again.

Step 4: Disconnect the window regulator motor (if equipped separately)

• Locate the regulator motor electrical connector and unplug it by hand or with a pick tool (small) for the lock tab.

Step 5: Separate the glass from the regulator

• Through the door access openings, locate the glass-to-regulator clamp bolts.
• Use an 10mm socket with a ratchet (3/8") and ratchet extension (3" to 6") to loosen/remove the clamp bolts.
• Carefully confirm the glass is fully supported by tape before fully freeing it from the regulator.
• On reassembly: Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs) (glass clamp fasteners).

Step 6: Remove the regulator assembly

• Remove the regulator mounting fasteners using an 10mm socket and ratchet (3/8").
• Angle and maneuver the regulator out through the largest door opening (take your time to avoid bending it).
• On reassembly: Torque to 10 Nm (89 in-lbs) (regulator-to-door fasteners).

Step 7: Transfer the motor (only if your new regulator does not include it)

• Remove the motor fasteners using a Torx T30 screwdriver.
• Move the motor to the new regulator in the same orientation and start all fasteners by hand.
• Tighten using a Torx T30 screwdriver, then finish with a torque wrench (inch-pound): Torque to 6 Nm (53 in-lbs) (motor fasteners).
• Keep fingers clear of gear area.

Step 8: Install the new regulator

• Place the regulator into the door cavity and align mounting holes.
• Install fasteners using an 10mm socket and ratchet (3/8"), then: Torque to 10 Nm (89 in-lbs).
• Reconnect the motor connector by hand until it clicks.

Step 9: Reattach the glass to the regulator

• Carefully lower the glass into the regulator clamps (peel tape back only as needed).
• Install clamp bolts using an 10mm socket, then: Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).

Step 10: Function test before reassembly

• Reconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket.
• Turn ignition on and run the window up/down while watching the track for binding (keep hands clear).
• If the window tilts or binds, loosen the clamp bolts with an 10mm socket, align the glass, then re-torque: Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
• Turn ignition off and disconnect the negative battery cable again using a 10mm socket before reassembly.

Step 11: Reinstall the vapor barrier and door panel

• Press the vapor barrier back into place; add butyl tape if needed to fully seal.
• Reconnect all door electrical connectors by hand (listen/feel for clicks).
• Hang the panel on the top window ledge first, then press clips in around the perimeter using your hands.
• Reinstall screws using a 7mm socket and/or Phillips screwdriver #2.

Step 12: Final battery connection

• Reconnect the negative battery cable using a 10mm socket.

• Cycle the window fully down and fully up 3 times to confirm smooth movement and proper sealing.
• Confirm the door lock switch, mirror controls, and speaker all work.
• Listen for cable popping/grinding; if heard, stop and re-check glass alignment and fastener tightness.
