🔧 Altima - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Replacing the front turn signal bulbs on your Altima is a beginner-friendly repair. The front turn signal bulbs sit in the headlamp housings and can usually be accessed from the engine bay area without removing the bumper.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 20-40 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Let the bulbs and headlamp area cool before touching them.
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Do not touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • ⚠️ Work carefully around plastic clips and wiring connectors because older plastic can crack.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not normally required for this bulb replacement.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flat-blade screwdriver 1/4 inch
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb amber 7444NA - Qty: 1 per side
  • Front turn signal bulbs amber 7444NA - Qty: 2 if replacing both sides

📋 Before You Begin

  • 🚗 Park your Altima on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • 💡 Turn the headlight switch and hazard switch off.
  • 🧤 Put on nitrile gloves before handling the new bulb.
  • 🔎 A trim clip removal tool is a small fork-shaped tool used to lift plastic push clips without breaking them.
  • 🔎 A bulb socket is the plastic holder that locks the bulb into the back of the headlamp.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood

  • Use your hand to pull the hood release inside the cabin.
  • Use your hand to release the secondary hood latch at the front of the hood.
  • Use the hood prop rod to safely hold the hood open.
  • Use a flashlight to look behind the headlamp on the side you are repairing.

Step 2: Locate the Front Turn Signal Socket

  • Use a flashlight to find the turn signal bulb socket at the outer/front area of the headlamp housing.
  • The socket has wiring attached and twists into the back of the headlamp.
  • Compare with the new bulb shape.

Step 3: Improve Access if Needed

  • Use a trim clip removal tool to gently lift any plastic push clips blocking your hand access near the upper radiator cover or intake duct area.
  • Use a flat-blade screwdriver 1/4 inch only if a push clip center pin needs to be lifted first.
  • Set any clips aside where they will not roll away.
  • No torque spec applies to plastic push clips; reinstall them by hand until fully seated.

Step 4: Remove the Turn Signal Bulb Socket

  • Use your gloved hand to grip the bulb socket, not the wires.
  • Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
  • If it feels stuck, use your hand to gently wiggle it while turning. Do not pry against the headlamp.

Step 5: Remove the Old Bulb

  • Use your gloved hand to pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Do not twist the bulb unless it resists; this style is typically a push-in wedge bulb.
  • Inspect the socket for melting, corrosion, or loose terminals.

Step 6: Install the New Bulb

  • Use your gloved hand to push the new 7444NA amber front turn signal bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Make sure the bulb sits straight and does not feel loose.
  • Do not touch the glass.

Step 7: Test Before Reassembly

  • Use your hand to turn on the hazard lights.
  • Check that the new bulb flashes brightly at the front of your Altima.
  • If it does not light, turn the hazards off, remove the bulb with your gloved hand, rotate it 180 degrees, reinstall it, and test again.

Step 8: Reinstall the Bulb Socket

  • Use your gloved hand to insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Turn the socket clockwise until it locks in place.
  • No torque spec applies; hand-tight only until the socket stops.
  • Make sure the socket seal sits flush to help keep moisture out.

Step 9: Reinstall Any Removed Covers or Clips

  • Use your hand to line up any removed plastic covers or duct pieces.
  • Use your hand to push the plastic clips back into place.
  • Use the flat-blade screwdriver 1/4 inch only to help guide a clip if needed.
  • No torque spec applies to plastic push clips; press them in until flush.

Step 10: Repeat on the Other Side if Replacing Both

  • Use the same steps on the opposite headlamp if you are replacing both front turn signal bulbs.
  • Replacing bulbs in pairs is recommended so both sides have similar brightness and age.

✅ After Repair

  • ✅ Turn on the left and right turn signals and confirm each front signal flashes at normal speed.
  • ✅ Turn on the hazard lights and confirm both front turn signals flash evenly.
  • ✅ If one side flashes very fast, recheck that bulb installation and socket connection.
  • ✅ Check the headlamp housing after a short drive for looseness or moisture around the socket.
