How to Replace Front Turn Signal Bulbs on a 2018 Kia Forte (Step-by-Step Guide)
Tools, parts list, safety tips, and easy under-hood instructions to swap both front signal bulbs

🔧 Forte - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll replace the front turn signal bulbs from behind the headlight housing (under the hood). This is usually a quick job, but space can be tight, so take your time to avoid breaking plastic tabs or touching the new bulb glass.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if the lights were recently on.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves and avoid touching the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
- ⚠️ Support the hood securely; don’t work if it won’t stay up.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Trim clip removal tool
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- 6" extension
- Phillips screwdriver #2
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber, OEM-equivalent for your Forte) - Qty: 2
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and have your flashlight ready.
- Replace both sides to match brightness.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which bulb you’re changing
- Turn the hazard lights on briefly to see which front side is out, then turn hazards back OFF.
- Use your flashlight to identify the rear of that headlight housing under the hood.
Step 2: Make working room (only if access is tight)
- If you can’t comfortably reach the back of the headlight, remove the closest plastic air duct/cover.
- Remove plastic push-clips using a trim clip removal tool (pop the center up, then pull the clip out).
- Remove any small bolts using a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension.
- Set the duct/cover and clips aside so you don’t lose them.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Locate the turn signal bulb socket (the twist-in plastic base going into the headlight). A bulb socket is the part you twist to remove the bulb from the housing.
- Grip the socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- With nitrile gloves on, pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (no twisting on most versions).
- If it’s stuck, wiggle gently while pulling—don’t pry on the socket.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- Install the new bulb into the socket by pushing it in fully and evenly.
- Don’t touch the bulb glass.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlight opening and rotate clockwise until it locks/snugs into place.
- Do not overtighten—just seat it fully.
Step 7: Reinstall any ducts/covers you removed
- Reinstall any removed duct/cover and clips.
- Tighten small bolts with a 10mm socket and 1/4" ratchet until snug.
- If any Phillips screws were removed, reinstall using a Phillips screwdriver #2 until snug.
Step 8: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 2-7 for the other front turn signal bulb.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and test left and right turn signals, then hazard lights.
- Verify the flash speed is normal (fast flashing usually means the bulb isn’t seated, the wrong bulb type, or a wiring/socket issue).
- Walk around the car and confirm both front turn signals are equally bright.
