šŸ”§ Ioniq - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

On your Ioniq, the front turn signal may be a replaceable amber bulb inside the headlamp, or it may be an LED unit that isn’t serviceable as a bulb. If it’s a replaceable bulb, the job is usually done through the front wheel-well access panel and takes only a few minutes per side.

Quick check: When the turn signal is on, do you see a blinking bulb behind the headlamp lens (replaceable), or a crisp LED strip/module (usually non-serviceable)?

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the car OFF and keep the key/fob away from the vehicle so the lights can’t switch on while your hands are in the area.
  • āš ļø Let the headlamp area cool if the lights were just on.
  • āš ļø Avoid touching any orange high-voltage cables (you won’t need to for this job).
  • āš ļø Don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • āš ļø Battery disconnect is not required for a normal bulb swap.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4" drive ratchet

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Qty: 2 Replace in pairs
  • Plastic push clips (wheel liner) - Qty: 2-6 If any break

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and shift to Park.
  • Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re working on (this makes more room in the wheel well).
  • Open the hood so you have more light and access if needed.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm which side bulb is out

  • Turn the ignition ON and test left and right turn signals.
  • Turn the ignition OFF once you’ve confirmed the failed side.

Step 2: Create access at the front wheel well

  • Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re replacing.
  • Use a flashlight to locate the small access area at the front portion of the fender liner (splash shield).
  • Remove the plastic clips/screws holding that section using a trim clip removal tool and Phillips screwdriver.
  • If there’s a small bolt, remove it with a 10mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet. Torque to n/a (small fasteners/plastic retainers)

Step 3: Locate the front turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp assembly through the opening you created.
  • Find the turn signal bulb socket (it will be a twist-lock socket going into the back of the headlamp).

Step 4: Remove the bulb socket

  • Grip the socket firmly and rotate it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand, then pull it straight out.
  • If tight, wiggle—don’t force.

Step 5: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (or twist slightly then pull, depending on bulb base).
  • Install the new amber bulb into the socket. Use nitrile gloves so you don’t touch the glass.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket and test

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp and rotate clockwise until it locks.
  • Turn the ignition ON and test that turn signal.
  • If it still doesn’t work, remove the socket again and make sure the bulb is fully seated and the socket is locked in place.

Step 7: Reinstall the wheel-well liner fasteners

  • Reposition the liner/access flap.
  • Reinstall clips/screws using a trim clip removal tool and Phillips screwdriver.
  • If you removed a bolt, reinstall it with a 10mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet. Torque to n/a (small fasteners/plastic retainers)

āœ… After Repair

  • Verify both left and right front turn signals work, and the dash indicator flashes at a normal rate.
  • Walk around the front and confirm the bulb is bright and amber.
  • If your Ioniq has LED front turn signals and there’s no bulb socket to remove, the fix is typically a lamp/module replacement (tell me what you see behind the liner and I’ll point you to the exact component).
