🔧 HR-V - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your HR-V’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housings. You’ll remove the bulb socket from the back of the headlight, swap the bulb, and reinstall everything so the turn signal flashes correctly and stays weather-sealed.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- 🛑 Let the headlight area cool if the lights were on (hot plastic and bulbs can burn you).
- 🛑 Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
- 🛑 Make sure the bulb socket gasket seats fully to prevent moisture inside the headlight.
- 🛑 Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb replacement.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the steering wheel away from the side you’re working on (this gives more hand room behind the headlight area).
- Open the hood and have your flashlight ready.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the correct bulb location
- Turn the hazard lights ON briefly, then OFF, to identify which front bulb is out.
- Use your flashlight to look behind the headlight assembly for the turn signal bulb socket (a twist-lock socket).
Step 2: Access the turn signal bulb socket (choose ONE method)
- Method A (from the engine bay): Reach behind the headlight and locate the turn signal socket; use your flashlight to confirm you’re on the correct socket.
- Method B (through the fender liner, more room):
- Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re working on.
- Use a trim clip remover tool (a flat pry tool for plastic clips) and/or small flat-blade screwdriver to remove the plastic clips/screws at the front edge of the fender liner.
- Use a Phillips screwdriver if a Phillips screw is present.
- Peel the liner back just enough to reach the back of the headlight.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Grip the socket firmly and twist it counterclockwise about a quarter turn to unlock it.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlight housing.
- If it’s tight, wiggle gently.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb and install the new bulb
- Use nitrile gloves before handling the new bulb.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).
- Push the new amber front turn signal bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and reassemble
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing, aligning the tabs.
- Twist the socket clockwise to lock it in place.
- If you used the fender liner access, reposition the liner and reinstall clips using the trim clip remover tool (press the clip body in, then press the center pin in).
Step 6: Function check
- Turn the ignition ON.
- Test the left and right turn signals and hazards.
- Verify the turn signal flashes at a normal speed (fast flashing usually means a bulb still isn’t working).
âś… After Repair
- Recheck that the socket is fully locked (this helps prevent moisture in the headlight).
- Walk around the HR-V and confirm both front turn signals are the same brightness and color.
- If it still flashes fast, check the other bulbs on that side (front/rear) for an outage.
