šŸ”§ Civic - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Civic’s front turn signals use a removable bulb in the headlight housing. Replacing the bulb restores proper signaling and helps you stay legal and visible.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF and switch all lights OFF before starting.
  • āš ļø Let the headlight area cool; bulbs and housings can get hot.
  • āš ļø Don’t touch the glass of the new bulb with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life). Use gloves.
  • āš ļø Battery disconnect is not required for this job.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4" ratchet
  • Flashlight

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber 7440A) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
  • Plastic push clips (engine bay/air duct clips) - Qty: 2-4

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to neutral, and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and use a flashlight to locate the rear of each headlight assembly.
  • Tip: Test hazards after installing each bulb.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm the correct bulb/socket

  • Turn the ignition to ON and switch on the hazard lights, then turn ignition OFF.
  • Use a flashlight and look behind the headlight you’re working on.
  • Find the turn signal bulb socket (it’s a twist-lock socket going into the back of the headlight).

Step 2: Create working room (passenger side, if needed)

  • If your hand space is tight, remove the front air intake duct/snorkel.
  • Use a trim clip removal tool to pop up any plastic push-clips.
  • Use a 10mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet to remove any 10mm bolts holding the duct.
  • Lift the duct out and set it aside. Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs) when reinstalling 10mm bolts.

Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Reach behind the headlight and grasp the turn signal socket.
  • Rotate the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand.
  • If it’s stubborn, wiggle gently while pulling—don’t twist hard.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Install the new amber 7440A bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Avoid touching the glass. If you accidentally touch it, wipe it clean and dry.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket and test

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight housing.
  • Twist clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks snugly by hand (do not over-tighten).
  • Turn ignition ON and test the turn signal and hazards to confirm normal flash rate.

Step 7: Reinstall any removed duct/clips

  • Reinstall the intake duct/snorkel (if removed).
  • Use a 10mm socket and 1/4" ratchet for bolts. Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
  • Reinstall push-clips using the trim clip removal tool to align them first, then press them in.

āœ… After Repair

  • Verify both front turn signals flash at a normal speed on left and right.
  • Check that the bulb is amber and evenly lit (no flicker).
  • If the signal flashes fast, re-check the bulb is fully seated and the socket is locked.
