🔧 Altima - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

This repair replaces the front turn signal bulbs in your Altima. The bulbs are accessed from behind the front bumper/fender-liner area, not through the top of the engine bay, so you’ll remove a few splash shield fasteners for hand access.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 30-60 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the headlights and hazard lights off before touching the bulb sockets.
  • ⚠️ Let the front lamp area cool if the lights were recently on.
  • ⚠️ Avoid touching the glass/amber bulb with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • ⚠️ If raising the front of your Altima, support it with jack stands. Never rely on a jack alone.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not normally required for this bulb replacement.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flat-blade screwdriver
  • Clip removal tool
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4-inch ratchet
  • Plastic trim tool
  • Floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Wheel chocks
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb amber 7444NA - Qty: 1 per side
  • Front turn signal bulbs amber 7444NA - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
  • Fender liner push clips - Qty: As needed

📋 Before You Begin

  • 🅿️ Park your Altima on level ground and shift to Park.
  • 🧱 Set the parking brake and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
  • 💡 Turn all exterior lights off.
  • 🧤 Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • 📌 A push clip is a plastic fastener with a center pin. Lift the center pin first, then pull the clip out.
  • 📌 A fender liner is the plastic splash shield inside the wheel opening.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Turn the Front Wheels for Access

  • Use the steering wheel to turn the front wheels fully away from the side you are repairing.
  • For the driver-side bulb, turn the wheels fully right.
  • For the passenger-side bulb, turn the wheels fully left.
  • This creates working room at the front edge of the wheel opening.
  • More space makes this much easier.

Step 2: Raise the Front Slightly if Needed

  • If you need more room, use a floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) at the front center jacking point.
  • Place jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum) under the front side support points.
  • Keep the car stable before reaching into the fender area.
  • No wheel removal is usually required, but removing the wheel can improve access for beginners.

Step 3: Remove the Front Fender Liner Fasteners

  • Use a flat-blade screwdriver or clip removal tool to lift the centers of the plastic push clips at the front of the fender liner.
  • Use the clip removal tool to pull the clips out once the centers are lifted.
  • Use a Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket with a 1/4-inch ratchet if your Altima has screws or small bolts along the lower splash shield edge.
  • Set the clips and screws aside in order so they go back in the same places.
  • Do not force old plastic clips.

Step 4: Pull the Fender Liner Back

  • Use a plastic trim tool to gently separate the front section of the fender liner from the bumper edge.
  • Pull the liner back just enough to reach the rear of the headlamp housing.
  • Do not crease the liner sharply. It only needs to flex out of the way.

Step 5: Locate the Front Turn Signal Socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp assembly through the fender opening.
  • Find the turn signal bulb socket. It is the socket for the amber front turn signal bulb near the outer/front area of the headlamp assembly.
  • Use a flashlight if needed to see the socket shape and wiring.

Step 6: Remove the Bulb Socket

  • Grip the bulb socket by hand.
  • Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
  • Do not pull on the wiring harness.

Step 7: Replace the Bulb

  • Pull the old front turn signal bulb amber 7444NA straight out of the socket by hand.
  • Push the new front turn signal bulb amber 7444NA straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Use nitrile gloves while handling the new bulb.
  • Match the old bulb shape before installing.

Step 8: Test the New Bulb Before Reassembly

  • Keep the socket hanging safely away from moving parts.
  • Turn on the hazard lights from the dashboard switch.
  • Confirm the new bulb flashes normally.
  • Turn the hazard lights off before reinstalling the socket.
  • If it does not light, remove and reseat the bulb by hand.

Step 9: Reinstall the Bulb Socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Turn the socket clockwise by hand until it locks in place.
  • Make sure it sits flat and sealed. A loose socket can allow water into the lamp.

Step 10: Reinstall the Fender Liner

  • Push the fender liner back into its original position by hand.
  • Use the clip removal tool or your fingers to reinstall the plastic push clips.
  • Press each clip center flush after the clip body is seated.
  • Use the Phillips screwdriver or 10mm socket with a 1/4-inch ratchet to reinstall any screws or small bolts.
  • For small splash shield bolts, snug them only; typical torque is Torque to 5-7 Nm (44-62 in-lbs).

Step 11: Lower the Vehicle if Raised

  • Use the floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) to lift the front slightly off the jack stands.
  • Remove the jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum).
  • Lower your Altima slowly to the ground.
  • Remove the wheel chocks after the vehicle is fully lowered.

✅ After Repair

  • ✅ Test the left turn signal, right turn signal, and hazard lights.
  • ✅ Walk around the front of your Altima and confirm both front signals flash evenly.
  • ✅ If the signal flashes very fast, one bulb may be loose, incorrect, or still burned out.
  • ✅ Check that the fender liner is secure and not rubbing the tire.
  • ✅ No scan tool, coding, or infotainment reset is needed for this repair.
