🔧 Niro - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Niro’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlamp assembly. The usual way to reach them is through the front wheel-well liner, then you twist the bulb socket out and swap the bulb.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool before reaching behind it.
- ⚠️ Support the vehicle with jack stands if you lift it—never rely on a jack alone.
- ⚠️ Keep the smart key 10+ feet away so the car can’t wake up unexpectedly.
- ⚠️ Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber 21W, PY21W/BAU15s type) - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and shift to Park.
- Turn the steering wheel away from the side you’re working on (gives your hand more room).
- If you lift the front corner: chock the rear wheels and place the vehicle securely on jack stands.
- Tip: Do one side at a time.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the bulb is the problem
- Turn on the hazard lights and walk around the Niro.
- If one front side is out (or flashes fast), that bulb is likely burned out.
- Turn the lights OFF before starting work.
Step 2: Create access at the front wheel well
- Turn the steering wheel to move the tire away from the side you’re working on.
- If you need more space, use a floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) to lift the front corner and set it on jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum), with wheel chocks at the rear wheels.
- Remove the small wheel-well liner fasteners at the very front edge using a trim clip removal tool and Phillips screwdriver.
- If there are 10mm bolts in that area, remove them using a 10mm socket and 1/4" ratchet.
- Pull the liner back just enough to fit your hand and a flashlight.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Reach behind the headlamp and find the turn signal socket (a plastic twist-lock at the outer/front area of the headlamp).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.
- If it’s tight, wiggle gently—don’t yank the wiring.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket using nitrile gloves.
- Push the new Front turn signal bulb (amber 21W, PY21W/BAU15s type) straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Tip: Match the base pins before pushing.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and liner
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp, then twist clockwise until it locks.
- Reposition the wheel-well liner and reinstall clips/screws using the trim clip removal tool and Phillips screwdriver.
- If you removed 10mm bolts, reinstall them with a 10mm socket and 1/4" ratchet (snug, do not over-tighten).
Step 6: Repeat on the other side (recommended)
- Replace the other front turn bulb the same way.
- Tip: Bulbs often fail close together.
✅ After Repair
- Turn on hazards and verify both front turn signals flash at a normal rate.
- Check that the socket is fully locked—if it’s loose, moisture can get into the headlamp.
- If the new bulb still doesn’t work, the issue may be a fuse, socket, or wiring (tell me which side and what it does).
