🔧 Tundra - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
On your Tundra, the front turn signal bulb sits in the back of the headlamp housing. The job is mostly about getting safe access, removing the bulb socket, and swapping the bulb without damaging it.
Quick check: Do you have LED headlights or halogen (regular bulb) headlights? If your Tundra has factory LED headlamps, the turn signal may be part of the headlamp assembly and not a simple bulb swap.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Work on level ground and support the truck with jack stands before going under/near the wheel well.
- ⚠️ Turn lights OFF and let the headlamp area cool before touching bulbs.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ If you remove a wheel, torque the lug nuts correctly when reinstalling.

- Torque wrench (20-200 ft-lbs range)

- Phillips screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Qty: 2 Replace in pairs
- Dielectric grease - Qty: 1 Optional but recommended
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on a level surface, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- Turn the steering wheel toward the side you’re working on for more room in the wheel well.
- If you’re doing both sides, plan to do one side start-to-finish, then repeat.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the front wheel lug nuts
- Use a 21mm socket with a breaker bar to loosen the lug nuts about 1/2 turn while the tire is still on the ground.
Step 2: Lift and support the front corner
- Use a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) to lift the front corner at a solid jacking point.
- Set the truck onto jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum) before removing the wheel.
Step 3: Remove the front wheel
- Remove the loosened lug nuts using the 21mm socket and take the wheel off.
- Set the wheel aside flat so it can’t roll.
Step 4: Open the front fender liner access
- Use a flashlight to look into the front of the wheel well, behind the headlamp area.
- Use a trim clip remover (specialty) to pop out the plastic push-clips holding the front portion of the fender liner.
- If your liner uses screws in that area, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver.
- Gently pull the liner back enough to reach the back of the headlamp. Don’t tear the liner.
Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Find the turn signal socket on the back of the headlamp (it will have wiring going into a twist-lock socket).
- Grip the socket and rotate it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand, then pull it straight out.
Step 6: Swap the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand (wiggle gently if it’s tight).
- Install the new front turn signal bulb (amber) by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you have it, apply a tiny smear of dielectric grease to the socket seal area (not on the bulb glass).
Step 7: Reinstall the socket and liner
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp and rotate clockwise until it locks.
- Reposition the fender liner and reinstall the clips using the trim clip remover (specialty).
- Reinstall any screws with the Phillips screwdriver.
Step 8: Reinstall the wheel and torque lug nuts
- Put the wheel back on and hand-thread all lug nuts.
- Lower the truck off the jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum) using the floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Use a torque wrench (20-200 ft-lbs range) with a 21mm socket to tighten lug nuts in a star pattern: Torque to 177 Nm (131 ft-lbs).
✅ After Repair
- Test the turn signal on that side, then test hazards.
- If the turn signal “fast flashes,” the bulb may be the wrong type, not fully seated, or there may be another bulb out.
- Check that the fender liner is clipped back securely and not rubbing the tire.
