🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement

On your Land Cruiser, the front turn signal bulb is serviced from the rear of the headlamp assembly. This is a simple bulb swap, but the socket can be tight, so take your time and avoid touching the glass of the new bulb if it is halogen.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition off and remove the key or fob before starting.
  • Let the headlamp area cool if the lights were recently on.
  • Do not touch a halogen bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • If the bulb is stubborn, do not force the socket or wiring connector.
  • Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Trim panel tool
  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4-inch ratchet
  • Extension bar
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch off.
  • Open the hood and make sure you have room to work behind the headlamp.
  • Work on one side at a time.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the rear of the headlamp

  • Open the hood.
  • Use a trim panel tool if any plastic covers or retainers block access near the headlamp.
  • On the side you are servicing, find the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the headlamp assembly.

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Use your hand to twist the bulb socket counterclockwise and remove it from the headlamp.
  • If space is tight, use a 10mm socket, 1/4-inch ratchet, and extension bar to remove any small access bracket or duct blocking the area.
  • Do not pull on the wiring.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Push the new front turn signal bulb into the socket until fully seated.
  • If the bulb is glass halogen, wear gloves and keep the glass clean.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Align the socket tabs with the headlamp housing.
  • Twist the socket clockwise until it locks in place.
  • Make sure the socket is fully seated so moisture cannot enter.

Step 5: Test the new bulb

  • Turn on the ignition.
  • Activate the turn signal for that side and confirm it flashes normally.
  • If it does not light, remove the socket and check bulb seating and connector contact.

✅ After Repair

  • Check both front turn signals to make sure they flash at the same rate.
  • Verify the dash indicator is not hyper-flashing.
  • If the bulb still does not work, inspect the fuse and socket contacts.
