🔧 ProMaster 1500 - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll replace the front turn signal bulbs by accessing the back of the headlamp housing, twisting the bulb socket out, and installing a new amber bulb. This restores proper signaling so other drivers can see your turns and hazards clearly.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours
Assumption: your front turn signal bulb is the amber “turn/park” bulb in the headlamp housing.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and switch lights OFF before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool if lights were recently on.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves—skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this bulb swap.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Set your flashlight so you can see behind the headlamp.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Access the back of the headlamp
- Open the hood and locate the rear of the headlamp assembly on the side you’re working on.
- Use a flashlight to identify the bulb sockets on the back of the housing.
- If a small cover, air duct, or splash shield is blocking your hand, gently release clips using a trim clip removal tool.
Step 2: Identify the turn signal bulb socket
- Turn signals are typically the amber bulb circuit in the headlamp (often a larger twist-lock socket).
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- If unsure, follow the wires to the socket.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Grip the socket firmly and rotate it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb from the socket
- Most front turn bulbs are a wedge-style bulb (it pulls straight out of the socket).
- Pull the bulb straight out while holding the socket steady.
- Wiggle gently—don’t crush the bulb.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- With nitrile gloves on, push the new amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Make sure it feels snug and straight (not crooked).
Step 6: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing, aligning the tabs.
- Rotate the socket clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
- Reinstall any clips/covers you removed using the trim clip removal tool.
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Replace the bulb on the opposite headlamp as well (best practice so color/brightness match).
âś… After Repair
- Test left and right turn signals with the ignition on.
- Turn on hazard lights and confirm both front signals flash evenly.
- Verify the turn signal indicator on the dash does not “fast flash” (fast flashing usually means a bulb isn’t working).
