šŸ”§ 1500 - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your 1500’s front turn signals use an amber bulb inside the headlamp assembly. Replacing it is usually a quick job from under the hood by twisting the bulb socket out of the headlamp and swapping the bulb.

Assumption: Your 1500 has the standard halogen headlamps (most Express trims do) with a dual-function front turn/park bulb.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the lights off and let the headlamp area cool before you start.
  • āš ļø Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • āš ļø If you’ll work near the battery/positive terminal, remove metal jewelry to prevent accidental shorting.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • 1/4" drive ratchet
  • 8mm socket
  • Flashlight

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal / parking light bulb (amber, dual-filament) - Qty: 2 (replace in pairs)

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlamps and hazards OFF and remove the key.
  • Open the hood and have a flashlight ready so you can see behind the headlamp.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Identify the correct bulb socket

  • Use a flashlight to look behind the headlamp assembly.
  • Find the socket that feeds the amber front turn/park bulb (it’s typically the outer/lower socket on the headlamp housing).
  • Turn on hazards briefly to confirm.

Step 2: Create working room (only if needed)

  • If your hand doesn’t fit, loosen nearby intake ducting or move a small shield out of the way.
  • Use an 8mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to loosen an air duct clamp (do not remove it completely).
  • If there are plastic push-clips, remove them using a trim clip removal tool. If one is stubborn, gently help it with a small flathead screwdriver.

Step 3: Remove the bulb socket from the headlamp

  • Grip the socket firmly.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Put on nitrile gloves.
  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).
  • If it’s stuck, gently wiggle while pulling—do not crush the glass.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • With nitrile gloves on, push the new amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • If you accidentally touched the glass, wipe it with a clean, dry paper towel before installing.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Twist clockwise until it locks (snug by hand—no tools needed).

Step 7: Reinstall anything you moved

  • Reposition any ducting/shields you moved.
  • Use an 8mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to snug the clamp (do not overtighten).
  • Reinstall push-clips by pressing them in by hand.

Step 8: Repeat for the other side

  • Replace the bulb on the opposite headlamp the same way.
  • Replace in pairs for matching brightness.

āœ… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition to RUN and test: left signal, right signal, hazards, and parking lights.
  • Walk around and confirm both sides flash at a normal speed (fast flashing usually means a bulb isn’t seated or is the wrong type).
  • Make sure any intake ducting you loosened is secure and not rubbing on the fan/shroud.

šŸ’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $60-$140 (parts + labor)
