šŸ”§ Rogue - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Rogue’s front turn signal bulb sits in the headlamp housing. The job is mostly about getting access, swapping the bulb without damaging it, and confirming the signal flashes normally.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Work on a level surface and set the parking brake.
  • āš ļø Let the headlamp area cool before reaching behind it.
  • āš ļø If you lift the vehicle, use jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum)—never rely on a jack alone.
  • āš ļø Don’t touch the glass part of the new bulb with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life. Use gloves or a clean paper towel.
  • āš ļø Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb swap.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Phillips screwdriver #2
  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4" drive ratchet
  • 6" socket extension
  • Floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Wheel chocks
  • 21mm lug nut socket
  • 1/2" drive breaker bar
  • Torque wrench (20-200 Nm range)

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) - Qty: 2 Replace in pairs for matching brightness/color.

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, turn the ignition OFF, and remove the key fob from the vehicle.
  • Chock a rear wheel using wheel chocks so the Rogue cannot roll.
  • Turn the steering wheel away from the side you’re working on (this opens up wheel-well access).
  • Assumption: Your Rogue uses an amber 7440A front turn signal bulb in the headlamp housing.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm the correct side

  • Turn the hazards ON briefly and walk around the Rogue to see which front bulb is out.
  • Turn hazards OFF and ignition OFF before starting work.

Step 2: Lift the front corner (recommended for easiest access)

  • Break the lug nuts loose 1/4 turn using a 21mm lug nut socket and 1/2" drive breaker bar.
  • Lift the front corner with a floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) at the proper jacking point.
  • Set the vehicle down onto jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum).

Step 3: Remove the front wheel (gives you room)

  • Remove lug nuts using a 21mm lug nut socket and 1/2" drive breaker bar.
  • Remove the wheel and set it flat under the vehicle as an extra safety backup.

Step 4: Pull back the front fender liner

  • Remove the plastic clips/screws at the front of the wheel-well liner using a trim clip removal tool and Phillips screwdriver #2.
  • If a small bolt is present, remove it using a 10mm socket, 1/4" drive ratchet, and 6" socket extension.
  • Gently peel the liner back just enough to reach behind the headlamp. Don’t crease the liner.

Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp and locate the turn signal socket (it twists out of the housing).
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
  • Tip: Use a flashlight to confirm you’re on the right socket.

Step 6: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a ā€œpush-inā€ style bulb).
  • Install the new front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
  • Wear nitrile gloves so you don’t touch the bulb glass.

Step 7: Reinstall the socket and test

  • Reinsert the socket into the headlamp housing.
  • Twist clockwise by hand until it locks.
  • Turn hazards ON to verify the bulb works and flashes at a normal speed.
  • If it ā€œhyper-flashesā€ fast, the bulb may not be seated or the wrong bulb type was installed.

Step 8: Reassemble the wheel well and wheel

  • Reposition the fender liner and reinstall clips/screws using a trim clip removal tool and Phillips screwdriver #2.
  • Reinstall the wheel and hand-thread the lug nuts.
  • Lower the Rogue off the jack stand using the floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum).
  • Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern using a torque wrench (20-200 Nm range): Torque to 133 Nm (98 ft-lbs).

āœ… After Repair

  • Test left and right turn signals, hazards, and parking lights.
  • Walk around the Rogue to confirm color and brightness match side-to-side.
  • Make sure the wheel-well liner is secured and not rubbing the tire.
