šŸ”§ Pathfinder - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Pathfinder’s front turn signal bulbs sit in the headlight housing and can usually be replaced from behind the headlight (under the hood). You’ll remove the turn-signal bulb socket, swap the bulb, then test the signals/hazards to confirm everything works.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

Assumption: Your Pathfinder uses an amber 7440A front turn signal bulb (common fitment).

āš ļø Safety & Precautions

  • āš ļø Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working near wiring.
  • āš ļø Let the headlight area cool if lights were recently on (hot plastic and bulbs).
  • āš ļø If you disconnect the battery, use a 10mm wrench and remove the negative terminal first.
  • āš ļø Don’t force the bulb socket—plastic tabs can break if twisted too hard.

šŸ”§ Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • 3/8" ratchet
  • 3" socket extension
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flashlight
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

šŸ”© Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (7440A amber) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

šŸ“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and support it securely.
  • Tip: Wear gloves for better grip.

šŸ”Ø Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Access the back of the headlight

  • Use a flashlight to look behind the headlight assembly (engine bay side).
  • If the space is tight, remove the closest intake/air duct or cover.
  • Remove push-clips using a trim clip removal tool.
  • Remove any small bolts using a 10mm socket, 3/8" ratchet, and 3" extension.
  • Tip: Set clips/bolts in one small cup.

Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Locate the turn signal socket on the back of the headlight (it will have a wiring connector going to it).
  • Grip the socket firmly with nitrile gloves for traction.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise about 1/8–1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
  • Tip: Twist first, then pull—don’t pry.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb

  • Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a wedge-style fit).
  • If it’s stuck, wiggle while pulling—do not use pliers on the glass/base.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • Push the new 7440A amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Tip: Don’t touch the bulb with dirty hands.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket and reassemble

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight housing.
  • Twist clockwise until it locks in place snugly.
  • Reinstall any duct/covers you removed using a 10mm socket and trim clip removal tool.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Replace the other front turn signal bulb the same way.
  • Tip: Replacing in pairs keeps color/brightness matched.

āœ… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition to ON (engine can stay off) and test left and right turn signals.
  • Turn on hazard lights and walk around to confirm both front signals blink evenly.
  • If a bulb doesn’t light, remove the socket and re-seat the bulb fully.
  • If it blinks fast, that usually means a bulb is out or not seated.
