🔧 Murano - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

You’ll access the back of the headlight, remove the turn-signal bulb socket, and swap in a new amber bulb. This restores proper signaling and keeps you legal and safe at night and in traffic.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

Assumption: Your Murano uses halogen front turn signal bulbs (not LED).

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Work on level ground and support the vehicle with jack stands before going under the fender area.
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if the lights were recently on.
  • ⚠️ Do not touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life.
  • ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb replacement.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Wheel chocks
  • 21mm socket
  • 1/2" drive breaker bar
  • 1/2" drive torque wrench (20-200 ft-lbs range)
  • 10mm socket
  • 3/8" drive ratchet
  • 6" socket extension
  • Phillips screwdriver #2
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flashlight
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A/7440NA type) - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on a flat surface, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
  • Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re working on (gives more hand room at the fender liner).
  • Tip: Replacing both sides saves time later.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Loosen the front wheel lug nuts (optional but recommended)

  • Use a 21mm socket with a 1/2" drive breaker bar to loosen the lug nuts about 1/2 turn while the wheel is still on the ground.

Step 2: Lift and support the front corner

  • Lift the front corner with a floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum).
  • Set the vehicle onto jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum).
  • Keep the floor jack lightly touching as a backup if possible.

Step 3: Remove the front wheel

  • Remove the lug nuts using the 21mm socket and 3/8" drive ratchet (or breaker bar), then remove the wheel.
  • Set the wheel flat under the vehicle as an extra safety backup.

Step 4: Open the front fender liner for access

  • Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out the plastic push-clips along the front section of the fender liner (splash shield).
  • Remove any screws in that same area using a Phillips screwdriver #2.
  • If a small bolt is present, remove it using a 10mm socket, 3/8" drive ratchet, and 6" socket extension.
  • Gently pull the liner back just enough to reach the back of the headlight.
  • Trim clip tool = pry tool for plastic fasteners.

Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Use a flashlight to locate the turn signal bulb socket on the back of the headlight housing.
  • Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise by hand until it unlocks, then pull it straight out.

Step 6: Replace the bulb

  • Wear nitrile gloves.
  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a wedge-fit bulb).
  • Push the new front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A/7440NA type) straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Don’t touch bulb glass with bare hands.

Step 7: Reinstall the socket and test

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight and twist clockwise by hand until it locks.
  • Turn the ignition ON and test the turn signal and hazards for that side.
  • If it doesn’t light, turn ignition OFF, remove the socket again, and reseat the bulb firmly.

Step 8: Reinstall the fender liner and wheel

  • Reposition the liner and reinstall all clips using the trim clip removal tool (push them back in).
  • Reinstall screws with a Phillips screwdriver #2.
  • If removed, reinstall the bolt using a 10mm socket and 3/8" drive ratchet.
  • Put the wheel back on and hand-thread the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle off the jack stands using the floor jack.
  • Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern using a 1/2" drive torque wrench: Torque to 133 Nm (98 ft-lbs).

Step 9: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1-8 for the opposite front turn signal.

✅ After Repair

  • Test left and right turn signals, hazards, and parking lights.
  • Walk around the front to confirm both sides flash at a normal speed.
  • Make sure the fender liner is secured so it can’t rub the tire.
