🔧 ES350 - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your ES350 front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlamp housing. The usual way to reach them is through the front wheel-well liner, then twist the bulb socket out and swap the bulb.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
Assumption: Access is via wheel-well liner (most ES350).
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Work on level ground and chock the rear wheels.
- 🛑 Support the car with jack stands before going under the fender area.
- 🛑 Don’t touch the glass of a halogen bulb with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).
- 🛑 Let the headlamp area cool if lights were recently on.
- 🛑 Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb swap.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on a level surface, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
- Turn the steering wheel away from the side you’re working on (gives more hand room in the wheel well).
- Have your new bulb(s) ready and keep them clean (use nitrile gloves).
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the front wheel lug nuts
- Use a 21mm socket with a 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen the lug nuts about 1/2 turn while the tire is still on the ground.
Step 2: Lift and support the front corner
- Use a floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) to lift at the correct front jacking point.
- Set the car onto jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum).
- Give the car a gentle push to confirm it’s stable before removing the wheel.
Step 3: Remove the front wheel
- Finish removing the lug nuts with the 21mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet.
- Remove the wheel and set it flat under the car as an extra safety backup.
Step 4: Open the front fender liner access
- Use safety glasses and a flashlight so you can see the clips clearly.
- Remove the plastic push-clips/screws at the front of the wheel-well liner using a trim clip removal tool.
- If a clip has a slotted center, use a flat-blade screwdriver to gently pop the center up, then remove the clip body.
- Pull the liner back just enough to reach behind the headlamp.
- Tip: Don’t crease the liner; flex it gently.
Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Locate the turn signal socket on the back of the headlamp (it’s a twist-lock style).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
- If it’s tight, use nitrile gloves for extra grip.
Step 6: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new amber bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Avoid touching the bulb glass; use nitrile gloves.
Step 7: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
- Twist clockwise by hand until it locks.
- Before reinstalling the liner and wheel, turn the ignition on and test the turn signal and hazards.
- If it doesn’t light, remove the socket and confirm the bulb is fully seated.
Step 8: Reinstall the fender liner and wheel
- Reposition the liner and reinstall the clips using the trim clip removal tool and flat-blade screwdriver.
- Reinstall the wheel and hand-thread all lug nuts.
- Lower the car using the floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) and remove the jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum).
- Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern using a torque wrench (10-150 ft-lb range): Torque to 103 Nm (76 ft-lb).
Step 9: Repeat on the other side
- Use the same tools and steps for the opposite front turn signal bulb.
âś… After Repair
- Test left and right turn signals, hazards, and the dash indicator arrows.
- Verify the blink rate is normal (a fast blink usually means a bulb isn’t working).
- Check that the fender liner is secured and not rubbing the tire on full lock (full left/right steering).
