How to Replace Front Turn Signal Bulbs on a 2016 Kia Soul (Fix Fast Blinker)
Step-by-step bulb swap with tools/parts list, safety tips, and post-repair turn-signal testing

🔧 Soul - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll remove the front turn-signal bulb socket from the back of the headlamp, swap the bulb, and reinstall it. This fixes a burned-out bulb or a fast-blink condition (the car blinks faster when a turn signal bulb is out).
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours
Assumption: your Soul uses an amber front turn-signal bulb; match the new bulb to the old one.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool before working; bulbs and housings can be hot.
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass of the new bulb with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this bulb replacement.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
- Flashlight
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" drive ratchet
- Trim clip remover
- Phillips screwdriver #2
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber, match old bulb) - Qty: 2
- Dielectric grease (optional) - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Turn the ignition OFF and make sure the turn signals are not on.
- Open the hood and have a flashlight ready so you can see behind the headlamp.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which side bulb is out
- Turn the ignition ON briefly and operate the turn signal left/right (or hazards).
- Use a flashlight if needed to confirm which front lamp isn’t blinking.
- Turn ignition OFF again before touching anything.
Step 2: Create room to reach the back of the headlamp
- Look behind the headlamp on the side you’re replacing; locate the turn-signal socket (a twist-lock socket going into the headlamp housing).
- If the air intake snorkel/duct blocks your hand, remove it:
- Use a trim clip remover to pop up any plastic push-clips.
- Use a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to remove any 10mm bolt(s) holding the duct.
- Tip: Set clips/bolts in a cup.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Reach behind the headlamp and grab the turn-signal socket.
- Turn the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
- If it’s tight, wiggle gently while turning—don’t force the headlamp housing.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style on most sockets).
- Use nitrile gloves to keep your fingers off the new bulb glass.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- Push the new bulb into the socket fully until it seats.
- If you have it, apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease to the socket seal (not the bulb glass).
Step 6: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
- Turn clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
Step 7: Reinstall any ducting or clips you removed
- Reinstall the snorkel/duct (if removed).
- Use a 10mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to snug the bolt(s).
- Reinstall push-clips using the trim clip remover to align them, then press them in by hand.
âś… After Repair
- Test left and right turn signals and the hazards to confirm proper blinking speed.
- Walk around the front to verify both sides match in brightness and color.
- If it still doesn’t work, check the bulb is fully seated and the socket is fully locked.
