🔧 Acadia - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Acadia’s front turn signal bulb sits inside the headlamp housing and is usually accessed through the front wheel-well liner (the plastic splash shield inside the fender). Replacing it restores proper signaling and keeps you road-legal and visible to other drivers.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5–1.0 hours
Assumption: your Acadia uses a replaceable amber front bulb (common types 3157A/3457A); match the number printed on the old bulb.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Work on a flat surface and use jack stands before going under the fender area.
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and remove the key before unplugging any lighting sockets.
- ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool—bulbs and housings can get hot.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass of the new bulb with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
- Loosen the front wheel lug nuts slightly before lifting (this means “crack them loose” while the tire is still on the ground).
- Know the terms: the wheelhouse liner is the plastic inner fender splash shield; it’s held by small screws and plastic clips.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the front wheel lug nuts
- Use a 19mm socket with a 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen the lug nuts about 1/2 turn.
Step 2: Lift and support the front corner
- Use a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) at the proper front jacking point to raise the corner you’re working on.
- Place jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum) under a solid support point and lower the vehicle onto the stands.
- Keep wheel chocks in place.
Step 3: Remove the front wheel
- Remove the lug nuts using the 19mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet.
- Pull the wheel off and set it flat under the vehicle as an extra safety backup.
Step 4: Open the wheelhouse liner access
- Use a 7mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet and 6" socket extension (1/4") to remove the small screws along the front portion of the wheelhouse liner.
- Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out any plastic push-clips.
- If a clip is stubborn, gently help it with a flat-head screwdriver.
- Pull the liner back just enough to reach behind the headlamp. Don’t crease the liner sharply.
- For the small liner fasteners, reinstall to Torque to 2 Nm (18 in-lbs) (snug, not tight).
Step 5: Remove the front turn signal bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Reach behind the headlamp and find the turn signal/park lamp socket (it’s a twist-lock socket going into the headlamp housing).
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
Step 6: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new amber bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Tip: read the number on the old bulb (commonly 3157A or 3457A) and make sure the new one matches. Matching the old bulb avoids fit issues.
Step 7: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing and twist clockwise until it locks.
- Before reassembling everything, turn the ignition on and test:
- Left/right turn signals
- Hazard lights
- Parking lights (if shared bulb)
Step 8: Reinstall the wheelhouse liner and wheel
- Reposition the liner and reinstall screws using the 7mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Reinstall any push-clips using the trim clip removal tool (press them in until seated).
- Reinstall the wheel and hand-thread the lug nuts.
- Lower the vehicle off the stands using the floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern using a torque wrench (10–150 ft-lbs range): Torque to 190 Nm (140 ft-lbs).
✅ After Repair
- Verify the turn signal flashes at a normal speed on both sides (fast flashing usually means a bulb isn’t working).
- Check that the bulb is bright and amber, and that the socket is fully locked (no moisture gaps).
- Take a quick night check against a wall/garage door to confirm visibility.
