🔧 Regal - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll be accessing the back of each front headlamp housing and swapping the turn signal bulb. This is usually done through the front wheel-well liner, so you don’t need to remove the bumper or headlight.
Assumption: Your Regal uses an amber wedge-base front turn signal bulb (commonly 7440NA/7444NA); some headlamp options can vary.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Support the car with jack stands before working in the wheel well.
- Let the headlamp area cool; bulbs and housings can get hot.
- Do not touch the glass of a halogen bulb with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- Keep the key off and lights off while swapping bulbs.

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulbs (amber, wedge-base) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
- Wheel liner push clips - Qty: 2-6
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
- Turn the steering wheel toward the side you’re working on to create more space in the wheel well.
- Do one side at a time to stay organized.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the front wheel lug nuts
- Use a 19mm socket with a 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen the lug nuts about 1/2 turn (do not remove yet).
Step 2: Safely lift and support the front corner
- Lift the front corner with a floor jack at the proper jacking point.
- Set the car onto jack stands and give the car a gentle push to confirm it’s stable.
Step 3: Remove the front wheel
- Use a 19mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet to remove the lug nuts.
- Remove the wheel and set it flat under the car as an extra safety backup.
Step 4: Open the front wheel-well liner access
- Use a 7mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the small screws along the front portion of the wheel-well liner (the section closest to the headlamp).
- Use a trim clip removal tool (a forked tool that pops plastic fasteners out) to remove any plastic push-clips holding the liner edge.
- If a clip is stubborn, use a flathead screwdriver to gently pry the center up first, then remove the clip.
- Pull the liner back just enough to reach behind the headlamp. Use a flashlight to see the bulb sockets.
Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Locate the turn signal socket on the back of the headlamp (you’ll see wiring going to a twist-lock socket).
- Grip the socket firmly with nitrile gloves and rotate it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise, then pull it straight out.
- If tight, wiggle gently—don’t yank the wires.
Step 6: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in “wedge” style).
- Install the new amber bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Do not touch the bulb glass; keep nitrile gloves on.
Step 7: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp and rotate clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
- Before reassembling the liner, turn the ignition on and test the turn signal and hazards.
- If it doesn’t light, turn everything off, remove the socket, and re-seat the bulb fully.
Step 8: Reinstall the wheel-well liner
- Reposition the liner and reinstall screws using a 7mm socket and 1/4" drive ratchet.
- Reinstall push-clips using a trim clip removal tool to align them, then press them in by hand.
Step 9: Reinstall the wheel and torque lug nuts
- Reinstall the wheel and hand-thread all lug nuts.
- Snug them using a 19mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet in a star pattern.
- Lower the car off the jack stands using the floor jack.
- Final-tighten with a 1/2" drive torque wrench: Torque to 140 Nm (103 ft-lb) in a star pattern.
Step 10: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 1-9 for the opposite front turn signal bulb.
- Replace in pairs for matching brightness and color.
âś… After Repair
- Test left and right turn signals and the hazard flashers.
- Confirm the turn signal “click” speed is normal (fast flashing usually means a bulb isn’t working).
- Make sure the wheel-well liner is fully secured so it can’t rub the tire.
