🔧 Q3 - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Replacing the front turn signal bulb restores proper signaling and keeps you legal/safe. On your Q3, the bulb is accessed from behind the headlight housing in the engine bay—no bumper removal is usually needed.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
Assumption: Your Q3 uses a service access cover behind each headlight; bulb type may vary by headlamp version, so match the old bulb exactly.
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Let the headlights cool before touching the housing or bulb.
- ⚠️ Turn ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves—skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Do not force plastic covers; they can crack when cold.
- 🔋 Battery disconnect is not required for a simple bulb swap, but keep the light switch OFF.

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Match your old bulb (common fits: PY21W/BAU15s or 7440A) - Qty: 2
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Turn the steering wheel slightly away from the side you’re working on to give your hands more room near the headlight area.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Tip: Replace bulbs in pairs for even color.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the correct side bulb
- Turn the hazard lights ON briefly, then OFF, to see which front turn signal is out.
- Use a flashlight to look through the headlight lens and confirm the turn signal section.
Step 2: Make room behind the headlight (if needed)
- If access is tight, remove any nearby intake duct or cover using a trim removal tool (plastic pry tool).
- If a fastener is present, remove it with a Torx T25 screwdriver or Torx T30 screwdriver.
- If a 10mm nut/bolt is present, remove it with a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension for 1/4" ratchet.
- Tip: Pull straight—wiggling helps, yanking breaks clips.
Step 3: Remove the rear headlight access cover
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Locate the round/oval cover on the back of the headlight.
- Twist the cover counterclockwise by hand; if it’s stuck, gently help it with a trim removal tool (plastic pry tool).
Step 4: Remove the turn signal bulb holder
- Find the turn signal bulb holder inside the opening (it’s the socket the bulb sits in).
- Twist the holder counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
- If there’s an electrical connector, release it carefully (press the tab and pull). Use a flashlight to see the locking tab.
- Tip: Don’t pull on wires—pull on the connector body.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Remove the old bulb from the holder.
- If it’s a push-in style (common on some versions), pull it straight out.
- If it’s a twist-lock style (common on some versions), push in slightly and twist to remove.
- Install the new Front turn signal bulb (amber) the same way the old one came out.
- Do not touch the glass portion of the bulb; keep your nitrile gloves on.
Step 6: Test the turn signal before reassembly
- Reconnect the connector if you unplugged it.
- Turn the hazards ON and confirm the new bulb flashes correctly and matches the other side’s color.
- If it doesn’t light, turn hazards OFF and reseat the bulb and holder fully.
Step 7: Reinstall the bulb holder and cover
- Reinsert the bulb holder into the headlight and twist clockwise until it fully locks.
- Reinstall the rear access cover and twist clockwise until snug.
- Reinstall any duct/covers removed using the Torx T25 screwdriver/Torx T30 screwdriver or 10mm socket as applicable.
âś… After Repair
- Run hazards for 30 seconds and verify both front signals flash at a normal speed.
- Check the dash for any bulb warning message; it should clear after the bulb is working.
- Make sure the rear headlight cover is sealed to keep moisture out.
