🔧 TLX - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
On your TLX, the front turn signal bulb is accessed from inside the front wheel well (behind the fender liner). You’ll remove a few fasteners, reach the bulb socket, swap the bulb, and reassemble.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Park on level ground and set the parking brake before lifting the car.
- ⚠️ Support the car with jack stands before working in the wheel well.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if the lights were recently on.
- ⚠️ Avoid touching the glass of the new bulb with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this bulb swap.

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on a flat surface, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
- Turn the steering wheel toward the side you’re working on (more room in the wheel well).
- Tip: Do one side at a time.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Loosen the front wheel lug nuts
- Use a 21mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet to loosen the lug nuts about 1/2 turn while the wheel is still on the ground.
Step 2: Lift and support the front corner
- Use a floor jack to lift the front corner you’re working on.
- Place a jack stand under a solid lift point and lower the car onto it.
- A jack stand is a safety support—never rely on the jack.
Step 3: Remove the front wheel
- Use a 21mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet to remove the lug nuts.
- Remove the wheel and set it flat under the rocker area as an extra safety backup.
Step 4: Open the fender liner access area
- Use a Phillips screwdriver #2 and trim clip removal tool to remove the screws/clips holding the front section of the fender liner (the plastic inner wheel well).
- Pull the liner back just enough to reach behind the headlight area.
- Tip: Use a work light so you can see the sockets.
Step 5: Locate the front turn signal bulb socket
- Use a work light and look behind the headlight housing from the wheel well.
- Find the turn signal bulb socket (it will be a twist-lock socket going into the headlamp).
Step 6: Remove the bulb socket
- Grip the socket firmly by hand (use nitrile gloves for better grip).
- Turn the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn and pull it straight out.
Step 7: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Do not touch the bulb glass with bare fingers; keep nitrile gloves on.
Step 8: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing, then twist clockwise to lock.
- Before reassembling the liner, turn the ignition to ON and switch on the turn signal to confirm it flashes normally.
- If it doesn’t work, remove the socket and re-seat the bulb firmly.
Step 9: Reinstall the fender liner
- Reposition the liner and reinstall the clips/screws using the trim clip removal tool and Phillips screwdriver #2.
- Make sure the liner edge sits correctly so it won’t rub the tire.
Step 10: Reinstall the wheel and torque the lug nuts
- Install the wheel and hand-thread all lug nuts.
- Snug the lug nuts in a star pattern using the 21mm socket and 1/2" drive ratchet.
- Lower the car off the jack stand using the floor jack.
- Final-tighten with a torque wrench: Torque to 108 Nm (80 ft-lbs) in a star pattern.
âś… After Repair
- Turn on the hazards and verify both front turn signals flash at the same speed.
- Check that the fender liner is secure and not contacting the tire during a slow steering lock-to-lock turn.
- Recheck lug nut torque after a short drive: Torque to 108 Nm (80 ft-lbs).
