🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
On your Sierra, the front turn signal bulb is replaced by removing the headlamp assembly, then twisting out the bulb socket from the back. This is a simple job, but the headlamp housing is tight, so taking your time helps avoid broken clips or scratched paint.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- Turn the headlights off and remove the key fob from the vehicle.
- Let the bulbs cool before touching the housing; halogen bulbs can get very hot.
- Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers. Skin oil can shorten bulb life.
- If your truck has aftermarket lighting or non-stock headlamps, bulb access may differ.
- No battery disconnect is required for this repair.

- Replace both sides if one bulb is old.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Remove the upper headlamp bolts
- Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the top headlamp retaining bolts.
- Set the bolts aside where they will not fall into the engine bay.
Step 2: Release the headlamp assembly
- Use a trim panel tool or your hand to gently pull the headlamp assembly straight forward.
- If it feels stuck, wiggle it lightly. Do not pry hard against the painted fender.
- Pull straight out to avoid breaking tabs.
Step 3: Access the turn signal bulb socket
- Reach behind the headlamp housing and locate the turn signal bulb socket.
- Use a flat blade screwdriver only if a locking tab needs gentle help releasing.
- Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it out.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new bulb into the socket until it seats fully.
- Do not force it if the pins do not line up.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and headlamp
- Insert the socket back into the housing and twist it clockwise to lock it.
- Slide the headlamp assembly back into place.
- Reinstall the upper bolts using the 10mm socket and ratchet.
- Tighten to snug factory hand-tight feel; do not overtighten plastic-mounted parts.
Step 6: Test the new bulb
- Turn the ignition on and activate the turn signal.
- Check that the new bulb flashes normally.
- Verify the front marker/parking lamp area is seated correctly.
✅ After Repair
- Check both front turn signals for normal flash rate.
- Walk around the truck and make sure the headlamp assemblies are fully seated.
- If the flash rate is fast, the bulb may not be seated or the wrong bulb type may be installed.
