🔧 Forte - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

You’ll replace the front turn signal bulb(s) by accessing the bulb socket from behind each headlight housing in the engine bay. This is usually a quick job—most of the time it’s just a twist-lock socket and a push-in bulb.

Assumption: Front turn signal bulb type can vary by headlamp option—match the new bulb to the exact number printed on your old bulb (amber).

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool down if it was recently on.
  • ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass of halogen-style bulbs with bare fingers—skin oil can shorten bulb life. Use gloves.
  • ⚠️ Keep tools and hands clear of the radiator fan area (it can start unexpectedly if the car is hot).

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight
  • Plastic trim tool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, match old bulb number) - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and support it securely.
  • Put on nitrile gloves (thin protective gloves that keep oils off the bulb).

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm which bulb is out

  • Turn the ignition to ON (engine off is fine) and activate the left/right turn signal.
  • Walk around and verify which front turn signal is not flashing.
  • Turn everything OFF and remove the key.

Step 2: Access the back of the headlight housing

  • Use a flashlight to look behind the headlight on the side you’re replacing.
  • Find the turn signal bulb socket (a round twist-lock socket going into the headlight housing).
  • If a plastic cover or air duct is blocking your hand, use a plastic trim tool to gently release the push-clips and move it aside. Go slow to avoid breaking clips.

Step 3: Remove the bulb socket

  • Grip the socket firmly by hand.
  • Turn it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out of the headlight.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb

  • Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (most are a friction-fit).
  • Look at the old bulb’s base and write down the bulb number (example formats: “1157A”, “2357A”, “3157A”). Use that exact match.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • With nitrile gloves on, push the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • If you accidentally touch the bulb glass, wipe it with a clean dry paper towel before installing.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight opening, keeping it straight.
  • Turn clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks in place (snug by hand—do not over-tighten).

Step 7: Repeat for the other side (recommended)

  • Replace the opposite-side front turn signal bulb the same way.
  • Replacing in pairs keeps brightness even.

âś… After Repair

  • Test left and right turn signals and the hazard lights.
  • Verify the bulb flashes at a normal speed (a very fast flash usually means a bulb is still out).
  • Make sure any covers/ducts/clips you moved are re-secured.
  • If the new bulb doesn’t light, remove it and rotate/reseat it, then re-check the socket lock.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $60-$140 (parts + labor)
