🔧 Cruze - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Cruze’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlamp housings. You’ll access them from behind the headlight in the engine bay, twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, and reinstall everything.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and set the parking brake before working near the cooling fan and belts.
- ⚠️ Let the headlamps cool down first; bulbs and housings can be hot.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required, but keep keys out of the car so lights can’t be switched on accidentally.

📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to neutral, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Lay a small towel near the headlamp area to set parts on and prevent scratches.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Identify the correct bulb socket
- Use a flashlight and look behind the headlamp assembly.
- Find the turn signal socket (it’s the socket that twists out; wiring plugs into it).
- If space is tight, remove a nearby duct/neck.
Step 2: Create working room (Passenger side, if needed)
- Loosen the intake duct clamp using a 7mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension for 1/4" ratchet.
- If your duct uses push clips, pop them out with a trim clip removal tool (a small forked tool that pulls plastic clips without breaking them).
- Move the duct slightly aside to reach the bulb socket.
Step 3: Create working room (Driver side, if needed)
- Locate the washer fluid filler neck near the headlamp area.
- Remove the retaining bolt using a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension for 1/4" ratchet.
- Pull the filler neck up/out of its grommet just enough to access the bulb socket.
- If reinstalling a bolt, Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
Step 4: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Grip the socket firmly and rotate it counterclockwise by hand.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
Step 5: Replace the bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves to keep oils off the bulb.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (no twisting for most 7440-style bulbs).
- Push the new amber 7440A / 7440NA bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp opening.
- Rotate clockwise by hand until it locks snugly.
- Make sure the socket O-ring area sits flush so moisture can’t get in.
Step 7: Reinstall anything you moved
- Reposition the intake duct and tighten the clamp with a 7mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension for 1/4" ratchet.
- Reinstall any push clips using a trim clip removal tool to align them, then press them in by hand.
- Re-seat the washer filler neck and reinstall the bolt using a 10mm socket; Torque to 9 Nm (80 in-lbs).
✅ After Repair
- Turn the ignition to ON and test left and right turn signals.
- Turn on hazard lights and walk around the car to confirm both front signals flash evenly.
- If a bulb doesn’t work, remove it and re-seat it fully in the socket.
- Make sure any ducts/neck you moved are secure and not rubbing a belt or fan.
