🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulb - Replacement

On your Ram, the front turn signal bulb is serviced from the front lamp assembly. You’ll remove the headlamp assembly enough to reach the bulb socket, swap the bulb, and reinstall everything carefully so the lamp seals correctly.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the lights off and let the bulbs cool before touching anything.
  • Do not touch a new halogen bulb glass with bare hands; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable if you want extra safety while unplugging lamp connectors.
  • Work carefully around painted surfaces and headlamp lenses to avoid scratches.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • 10mm socket
  • Ratchet
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flat trim tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlamps and ignition off.
  • Open the hood and make sure you have room to work at the front of the truck.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the hood and remove the upper cover

  • Use a trim clip removal tool to remove the push clips from the upper radiator cover.
  • Lift the cover out and set it aside.

Step 2: Remove the headlamp assembly fasteners

  • Use a 10mm socket and ratchet to remove the headlamp mounting bolts.
  • Keep the bolts together so none get lost.
  • Support the lamp with one hand.

Step 3: Pull the headlamp forward

  • Carefully slide the headlamp assembly forward.
  • If it feels stuck, use a flat trim tool very gently at the edge.
  • Do not force it; the tabs can break.

Step 4: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp and locate the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Use your hand to twist the socket counterclockwise and pull it out.
  • Remove the bulb from the socket.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Install the new bulb into the socket.
  • Use gloves so you do not touch the bulb glass directly.
  • Reinstall the socket into the headlamp and twist it clockwise until it locks.

Step 6: Reinstall the headlamp assembly

  • Slide the headlamp back into place.
  • Use the 10mm socket and ratchet to reinstall the mounting bolts.
  • Torque to 8 Nm (71 in-lbs).

Step 7: Reinstall the upper cover

  • Put the upper radiator cover back in place.
  • Use the trim clip removal tool to reinstall the push clips.

Step 8: Test the new bulb

  • Turn on the parking lights and hazard lights.
  • Check that the front turn signal flashes normally on both sides.
  • If the bulb does not work, remove it and make sure it is seated fully in the socket.

✅ After Repair

  • Verify the turn signal flashes at normal speed.
  • Check that the headlamp sits flush and the lens is fully seated.
  • If the signal flashes faster than normal, the bulb may be the wrong type or not fully installed.
