🔧 Edge - Front Turn Signal “Bulb” Replacement

On your Edge, the front turn signal may be a traditional replaceable bulb or an LED built into the headlamp (no bulb to replace). The steps below cover both setups, so you can follow the path that matches your headlamps.

Difficulty Level: Beginner (bulb type) / Advanced (LED headlamp type) | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.5 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool before touching anything near the housing.
  • ⚠️ If lifting a front corner, support it with jack stands—never rely on a jack alone.
  • ⚠️ Don’t touch a new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; oils can shorten bulb life.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Wheel chocks
  • Floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Flat-blade screwdriver
  • 8mm socket
  • 1/4" ratchet
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, match the number printed on your old bulb) - Qty: 2
  • Fender liner push clips (optional, in case any break) - Qty: 2-6
  • Complete headlamp assembly (if your turn signal is LED/non-serviceable) - Qty: 1

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re working on to create space in the wheel well.
  • Decide which version you have:
    • If you can access a twist-out bulb socket behind the headlamp, you have the replaceable-bulb style.
    • If there is no bulb socket and the turn signal is an LED strip/module, it’s part of the headlamp assembly.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm which headlamp type you have

  • Turn the hazard lights on so the front turn signal is flashing.
  • Use a flashlight and look behind the headlamp from inside the wheel well area.
  • If you see a round, twist-lock socket going into the headlamp: follow Steps 2–7.
  • If you do not see a twist-lock socket for the turn signal: skip to Step 8 (LED headlamp path).

Step 2: Create access through the front wheel well

  • Turn the steering wheel fully to the opposite side for more room.
  • Remove the front section of the fender liner fasteners using a trim clip removal tool and flat-blade screwdriver.
  • If there are small screws, remove them with an 8mm socket and 1/4" ratchet.
  • Gently pull the liner back to reach behind the headlamp. Pull just enough for your hand.

Step 3: Locate the front turn signal bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp and find the socket feeding the turn signal area (the one that matches the flashing light).
  • Use a flashlight to confirm you’re on the correct socket.

Step 4: Remove the bulb socket

  • Twist the socket counterclockwise by hand and pull it straight out.
  • If it’s tight, use a nitrile glove for grip—don’t use pliers (they can crack the socket).

Step 5: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Install the new bulb by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
  • Do not touch the bulb glass with bare fingers; wear nitrile gloves.
  • Read the bulb number printed on the old bulb and match it when ordering. Take a photo before reinstalling.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket and quick-test

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp and twist clockwise until it locks.
  • Turn hazards on and confirm:
    • The new bulb flashes
    • The flash rate is normal (not “hyper-flash”)

Step 7: Reinstall the fender liner

  • Reposition the liner.
  • Reinstall clips using a trim clip removal tool and flat-blade screwdriver.
  • Reinstall any screws using an 8mm socket and 1/4" ratchet.

Step 8: If your Edge has LED front turn signals (no bulb)

  • If there is no replaceable socket for the turn signal, the LED is part of the headlamp assembly and is not serviced as a bulb.
  • At that point, diagnosis comes first:
    • Check for moisture inside the headlamp and for damaged wiring at the headlamp connector.
    • If wiring and power/ground are good, the fix is typically replacing the complete headlamp assembly.
  • This becomes an “assembly replacement” job and may require bumper cover removal; tell me which headlamp you have (LED vs bulb) and I’ll give the correct removal steps for your Edge.

âś… After Repair

  • Verify left and right turn signals work and the dash indicator flashes at a normal speed.
  • Turn headlights on and confirm no warning messages appear.
  • Re-check that the fender liner is secured and not rubbing the tire.

đź’° DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: ₹800-₹2,500 (bulb type) / ₹25,000-₹80,000 (LED headlamp assembly, varies widely)

DIY Cost: ₹300-₹1,200 (bulb type) / ₹18,000-₹70,000 (assembly, parts only)

You Save: ₹500-₹1,500 (bulb type) by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run ₹800-₹2,000/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.5-1.0 hours (bulb type).

Two quick questions so I give you the exact right path:

  • Does your Edge have LED headlamps (projector/LED signature) or halogen bulbs?
  • Is the turn signal out in the headlamp area, or the mirror turn signal?
