🔧 Renegade - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Renegade’s front turn signal bulb sits in the back of the headlamp housing. The job is mostly “access, twist out the socket, swap the bulb, twist back in,” but space can be tight so you may need to open up the front fender liner for more room.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working near the fans and belts.
- ⚠️ Let the headlamps cool if they were just on (hot housing can burn you).
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life); use gloves.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Trim clip removal tool
- Phillips screwdriver #2
- Torx T25 driver
- 7mm socket
- 1/4" drive ratchet
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber, match your original bulb number) - Qty: 2
- Fender liner push clips (optional, in case any break) - Qty: 4
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, set the parking brake, and turn the steering wheel toward the side you’re working on (gives you more room at the liner).
- Have your replacement bulbs ready and confirm the bulb number from the old bulb/owner’s manual so you buy the exact match.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Get access to the back of the headlamp
- Open the hood and use a flashlight to look behind the headlamp on the side you’re replacing.
- If you can comfortably reach the turn-signal socket from the engine bay, continue to Step 2.
- If it’s too tight to reach, use the wheel-well access method in Step 1A.
Step 1A: Wheel-well access method (more room)
- Use a Torx T25 driver and 7mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the small fasteners along the front edge of the inner fender liner (the plastic liner inside the wheel arch).
- Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out any plastic push clips. Work slowly to avoid breaking clips.
- Gently pull the liner back just enough to get your hand to the back of the headlamp.
Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Find the turn signal bulb socket on the rear of the headlamp housing (it will have a wiring connector going into a twist-lock socket).
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand. If it’s stubborn, use a Phillips screwdriver #2 only as gentle leverage on the socket’s tabs (don’t crack the housing).
- Pull the socket straight out.
Step 3: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand (it’s a push-in wedge style on most Renegade setups).
- Push the new bulb fully into the socket until it seats firmly.
Step 4: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp opening, making sure it sits flush.
- Rotate the socket clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
Step 5: Reinstall the fender liner (if removed)
- Position the liner back into place.
- Reinstall the screws using a Torx T25 driver and 7mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet and snug them evenly (do not overtighten into plastic).
- Reinstall push clips using a trim clip removal tool to align them, then press them in by hand.
âś… After Repair
- Turn the ignition ON and test the front turn signal, hazards, and parking lamps.
- Verify the bulb blinks at a normal rate (fast blinking usually means a bulb isn’t working or isn’t seated).
- If moisture appears inside the headlamp later, recheck that the socket is fully locked and seated.
