🔧 Fit - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Fit’s front turn signal bulb sits inside the headlight housing. The job is mostly done from under the hood: you’ll twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, and reinstall the socket.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool first; bulbs can get hot.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves—skin oils can shorten bulb life if you touch the glass.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
- Small flashlight
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (7440A amber) - Qty: 2
- Dielectric grease - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Use a small flashlight to identify the turn signal bulb socket behind the headlight.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Verify the bulb you’re replacing
- Turn the hazard lights ON briefly, then OFF (no tools needed) to confirm which front turn signal is out.
- Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
Step 2: Access the turn signal bulb socket
- Open the hood (no tools needed).
- Use a small flashlight to look behind the headlight assembly on the side you’re working on.
- Find the turn signal bulb socket (it’s a twist-lock socket going into the back of the headlight housing).
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- With nitrile gloves on, grip the socket firmly.
- Twist the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn (no tools needed), then pull it straight out.
- Wiggle gently—don’t force it.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket using nitrile gloves (no tools needed).
- Install the new front turn signal bulb (7440A amber) by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Optional: Apply a tiny smear of dielectric grease to the socket seal area (not on the bulb glass) using your gloved fingertip.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing (no tools needed).
- Twist clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks in place.
- Make sure the wiring isn’t pulled tight or pinched.
Step 6: Function test
- Turn the ignition ON and test the turn signal and hazards (no tools needed).
- Confirm the bulb flashes normally (not fast). Fast flashing usually means a bulb is still out.
- Repeat the same steps on the other side if you’re replacing both (recommended).
âś… After Repair
- Make sure both front turn signals and hazards work.
- Walk around the car and confirm the rear signals also flash normally.
- If the new bulb doesn’t work: re-seat the bulb, re-lock the socket, and check for corrosion on the socket contacts.
