🔧 Silverado 1500 - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll replace the front turn signal bulb(s) by accessing the back of the headlight assembly from under the hood. This is usually a quick job, and it fixes a burned-out bulb or a fast “hyper-flash” turn signal.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool first; bulbs can be hot.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
- ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this repair.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Flashlight
- Clean shop towel

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and have a flashlight ready so you can see behind the headlight.
- Have a towel ready to handle the new bulb without touching the glass.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Identify the correct bulb socket
- Use a flashlight and look behind the headlight assembly on the side you’re working on.
- Find the turn signal bulb socket (it’s a round plastic socket that twists out of the housing).
- If unsure, turn hazards on briefly to confirm.
Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.
- If it’s tight, use a clean shop towel for better grip (don’t use pliers; they can crack the socket).
Step 3: Remove the old bulb
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket by hand.
- Use the flashlight to read the bulb number on the old bulb, and match it when installing the replacement.
Step 4: Install the new bulb
- Using nitrile gloves or a clean shop towel, push the new bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Make sure it sits straight and doesn’t wobble.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket and test
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing, keeping it aligned.
- Twist clockwise by hand until it locks in place (snug, not forced).
- Turn the ignition ON and test the turn signal and hazards.
âś… After Repair
- Verify the front turn signal flashes at a normal speed on that side.
- If it still “hyper-flashes,” check the other front/rear bulb on the same side (one out bulb can cause fast blinking).
- Make sure the socket is fully locked—loose sockets can cause intermittent operation.
