🔧 Corolla - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Corolla’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housings. The job is usually done from inside the engine bay by twisting the bulb socket out, swapping the bulb, and reinstalling everything.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours

Assumption: Standard halogen front turn signal bulb (amber) in the headlamp housing.

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool first (bulbs and housings can get hot).
  • ⚠️ Avoid touching the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Small flathead screwdriver
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

  • Front turn signal bulb (7440A / amber) - Qty: 2 Replace in pairs

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Pop the hood and support it securely.
  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm the correct bulb socket

  • Open the hood and look behind the headlight on the side you’re replacing.
  • Use a flashlight to locate the turn signal socket (it’s usually the amber/outer-side bulb area).
  • If access is tight, work by feel.

Step 2: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Grip the socket firmly by hand.
  • Rotate the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn to unlock it.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the headlight housing.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).
  • If it’s stuck, gently wiggle while pulling—do not twist hard.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • With nitrile gloves on, push the new 7440A amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it clean with a dry, lint-free cloth before installing.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight housing, lining up the tabs.
  • Rotate the socket clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
  • Make sure it feels secure and doesn’t wobble.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Replace the other front turn signal bulb the same way.
  • Matching bulbs look more even.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition to ON and test left/right turn signals.
  • Turn on the hazard lights and confirm both front signals flash evenly.
  • If a bulb doesn’t light, remove the socket and re-seat the bulb fully.
