🔧 Tucson - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

This repair replaces the front turn signal bulbs in your Tucson’s headlamp assemblies. A burned-out turn signal bulb can make your vehicle harder to see and may cause the turn signal indicator on the dash to flash quickly.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 15-30 minutes

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition off and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlamp area cool if the lights were recently on.
  • ⚠️ Do not touch the glass of any bulb with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
  • ⚠️ No battery disconnect is required for this bulb replacement.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Clean microfiber cloth
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 1 per side
  • Front turn signal bulbs - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park your Tucson on level ground.
  • Shift to Park and set the parking brake.
  • Turn all exterior lights off.
  • Open the hood and support it fully.
  • A bulb socket is the plastic holder that twists into the back of the lamp housing and holds the bulb.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open the Hood

  • Use your hand to pull the hood release inside the cabin.
  • Use your hand to release the secondary hood latch at the front of the hood.
  • Raise the hood and secure it with the prop rod.
  • Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.

Step 2: Locate the Front Turn Signal Bulb Socket

  • Use a flashlight to look behind the headlamp assembly.
  • The front turn signal bulb socket is mounted at the rear of the headlamp housing, toward the outer/front corner area.
  • Look for the socket that lines up with the amber turn signal lens area.
  • Work slowly; space is tight.

Step 3: Remove the Bulb Socket

  • Use your gloved hand to grip the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.
  • Do not pull on the wiring harness.

Step 4: Remove the Old Bulb

  • Use your gloved hand to remove the old bulb from the socket.
  • If it is a wedge-style bulb, pull it straight out.
  • If it is a bayonet-style bulb, gently push in, twist counterclockwise, then pull it out. A bayonet bulb has small side pins that lock into the socket.
  • Use a clean microfiber cloth if the bulb is slippery.

Step 5: Install the New Bulb

  • Use nitrile gloves or a clean microfiber cloth to handle the new front turn signal bulb.
  • Install the new bulb into the socket the same way the old one came out.
  • Make sure the bulb is fully seated and straight in the socket.
  • No torque spec applies; this bulb is hand-installed only.

Step 6: Test the Bulb Before Reassembly

  • Use your hand to switch the ignition to ON without starting the engine.
  • Use the turn signal stalk to activate the side you replaced.
  • Check that the new front turn signal bulb flashes normally.
  • Turn the ignition and turn signal back off before continuing.

Step 7: Reinstall the Bulb Socket

  • Use your gloved hand to insert the bulb socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Align the tabs on the socket with the slots in the housing.
  • Turn the socket clockwise until it locks in place.
  • No torque spec applies; hand-tighten only until seated.

Step 8: Repeat on the Other Side

  • Use the same steps to replace the opposite front turn signal bulb if replacing in pairs.
  • Use a flashlight to confirm both sockets are locked into the housings.
  • Replacing both sides keeps brightness even.

Step 9: Final Light Check

  • Use the turn signal stalk to test the left and right front turn signals.
  • Use the hazard switch to test both front turn signals together.
  • Confirm the dash indicator no longer flashes rapidly.
  • Close the hood securely by hand.

✅ After Repair

  • ✅ Walk around the front of your Tucson and confirm both turn signals flash evenly.
  • ✅ If one side still does not work, recheck that the bulb is seated fully in the socket.
  • ✅ If the bulb flashes quickly after replacement, inspect the rear turn signal bulb on the same side too.
  • ✅ No scan tool, reset, or programming is required.

💰 DIY vs Shop Cost

Shop Cost: $45-$95 per bulb replacement, depending on local labor pricing

DIY Cost: $8-$25 for bulbs

You Save: $35-$70 by doing it yourself!

Shop labor rates vary but typically run $100-$150/hour. This repair takes a shop approximately 0.2-0.4 hours.
