🔧 Civic - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

You’ll replace the front turn signal bulb inside the headlight housing. A burned-out bulb can cause fast blinking and reduced visibility to other drivers.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before working near the headlights.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if the lights were recently on.
  • ⚠️ Avoid touching the new bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • ⚠️ Do not force plastic sockets—turn gently to avoid cracking the headlight housing.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and support it securely.
  • Make sure the headlight/turn signals are switched OFF.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the turn signal bulb socket

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Use a flashlight to look behind the headlight assembly (from the engine bay).
  • Find the turn signal socket (it’s a twist-lock socket on the back of the headlight).

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket from the headlight

  • Use your gloved hand to grip the socket.
  • Turn the socket counterclockwise about 1/4 turn, then pull it straight out.
  • If tight, wiggle gently—don’t pry.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket using your gloved fingers.
  • Inspect the socket for corrosion or melting. If you see damage, stop and replace the socket too.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • Install the new amber 7440A bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Do not touch the bulb glass with bare fingers.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight housing.
  • Turn clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks snugly.
  • No torque spec here—hand-tight only.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–5 for the other front turn signal.
  • Replace bulbs in pairs for matching brightness.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and test left and right turn signals.
  • Turn on hazard lights and confirm both front turn signals blink evenly.
  • If it still blinks fast, check the other turn signal bulbs (rear and side marker) for a burned-out bulb.
