🔧 Camry - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Camry’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housings. The job is mostly “reach in from behind, twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, and reinstall.” Replacing both sides at the same time helps keep brightness and color matched.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the car OFF and remove the key fob from the car to prevent lights turning on unexpectedly.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if the lights were recently on (bulbs and housings can get hot).
  • ⚠️ Do not touch the glass of the new bulb with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life).
  • ⚠️ No hybrid high-voltage disconnect is required for this bulb replacement.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Small flat-blade screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (7440NA amber) - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the lighting switch to OFF.
  • Open the hood and use a flashlight to locate the rear of each headlight housing.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Identify the turn signal bulb socket

  • Use a flashlight and look behind the headlight assembly from inside the engine bay.
  • Find the socket that goes to the amber turn signal section of the headlight (it will be a twist-lock bulb socket).

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket from the headlight

  • Grip the socket firmly by hand (wear nitrile gloves for grip).
  • Rotate the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn, then pull it straight out.
  • Tip: Push in slightly, then twist.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb from the socket

  • Pull the bulb straight out of the socket by hand (use nitrile gloves).
  • If it’s stuck, gently wiggle while pulling—do not twist hard enough to break it.

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • Install the new 7440NA amber bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Do not touch the bulb glass. If you accidentally do, wipe it with a clean, dry lint-free cloth.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket into the headlight

  • Align the socket tabs with the headlight housing slots.
  • Push the socket in, then rotate clockwise about a quarter turn until it locks.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1–5 for the other front turn signal bulb.
  • Tip: Replace in pairs for equal brightness.

Step 7: If the connector tab is hard to release (only if needed)

  • If you need to unplug the socket wiring, press the release tab by hand first.
  • If it won’t release, use a small flat-blade screwdriver to gently press the tab while pulling the connector straight off.
  • A “connector tab” is the little plastic latch that prevents the plug from slipping off.

✅ After Repair

  • Turn the ignition ON and test left and right turn signals.
  • Verify the turn signal flashes at a normal speed (fast flashing can mean a bulb isn’t seated or isn’t working).
  • Walk around the front and confirm both sides are bright and amber.
