🔧 Camry - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

You’ll replace the front turn signal bulb by accessing the back of the headlight housing from under the hood. The bulb sits in a twist-lock socket; once you remove the socket, the bulb pulls straight out.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if it was recently on.
  • ⚠️ Wear gloves; avoid touching the glass part of the new bulb.
  • ⚠️ Do not force the socket—plastic tabs can crack.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Trim clip tool (specialty)
  • 10mm socket
  • 1/4" ratchet

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (7440A amber) - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Open the hood and use a flashlight so you can see behind the headlight.
  • Replace both sides for matching brightness.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Confirm which bulb you’re changing

  • Turn the hazards ON briefly, walk to the front, and confirm which side is out.
  • Turn hazards OFF again before working under the hood.

Step 2: Access the back of the headlight housing

  • Open the hood and locate the rear of the headlight on the side you’re replacing.
  • If your hand space is tight, remove the air intake snorkel clips/bolt near the headlight using a trim clip tool (specialty) and 10mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet.
  • A flashlight helps you find the correct socket.

Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Find the turn signal socket at the back of the headlight (it will have two wires leading to it).
  • Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.

Step 4: Remove the old bulb from the socket

  • Hold the socket firmly and pull the bulb straight out (it’s a friction-fit).
  • Use nitrile gloves to keep skin oils off the new bulb.

Step 5: Install the new bulb

  • Push the new 7440A amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • Do not twist the bulb—this style presses in.

Step 6: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket into the headlight housing, making sure it sits flush.
  • Rotate clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.

Step 7: Reinstall any parts you moved for access

  • If you removed the intake snorkel/clips, reinstall them using the 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and trim clip tool (specialty).

âś… After Repair

  • Turn hazards ON and confirm the new front turn signal flashes normally on both sides.
  • If it still doesn’t work, re-check that the bulb is fully seated in the socket and the socket is fully locked.
  • Verify the turn signal indicator on the dash flashes at a normal speed (fast flashing usually means a bulb still isn’t working).
