🔧 RX - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
On your RX, the front turn signal can be either a replaceable amber bulb in the headlamp, or an LED built into the headlamp (not a “bulb”). The steps below cover both so you don’t waste time taking things apart the wrong way.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.5 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🛑 Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key/fob from the vehicle.
- 🛑 Let the headlamp housing cool before reaching behind it.
- 🛑 If you lift the front corner, support it with jack stands before working near the wheel well.
- 🛑 Do not touch the glass of a halogen bulb with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).

You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses
- Plastic trim clip removal tool

- 10mm socket
- 3/8" ratchet
- Floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum)
- Jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum)

🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) - Qty: 1
- Fender liner clips - Qty: 2-6
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re working on (this opens up wheel-well access).
- Tip: Do one side at a time.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm whether it’s a bulb or LED module
- Turn on the hazard lights and look at the front turn signal area.
- If the turn signal is a distinct “bulb-looking” reflector area, it’s usually replaceable.
- If it looks like a thin LED strip or multiple tiny points and your owner’s manual does not list a bulb size, it’s likely LED (not serviceable as a bulb).
- Tip: If there’s no bulb socket, it’s LED.
Step 2: Raise access (only if you need more room)
- If access is tight, use wheel chocks, then use a floor jack (rated 3-ton minimum) to lift the front corner at the approved jacking point.
- Set the vehicle down on jack stands (rated 3-ton minimum).
- Keep the wheel installed; you’re only creating working space.
Step 3: Open the front fender liner access
- Use a flashlight to find the small access area in the front portion of the wheel well liner.
- Remove plastic clips using a plastic trim clip removal tool.
- If there are small screws, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver.
- If there are small bolts, remove them using a 10mm socket and 3/8" ratchet.
- Gently pull the liner back enough to reach behind the headlamp.
Step 4: Remove the turn signal bulb socket (bulb-type setup)
- Reach behind the headlamp and locate the turn signal socket (it will have a wiring connector going to a twist-lock base).
- Rotate the socket counterclockwise by hand to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
- If it’s slippery, wear nitrile gloves for grip.
Step 5: Replace the bulb (bulb-type setup)
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7440A) by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
- Do not touch the bulb glass; use nitrile gloves.
Step 6: Reinstall socket and test
- Reinsert the socket into the headlamp.
- Twist clockwise by hand until it locks.
- Turn on the hazard lights and confirm it flashes normally (not fast).
Step 7: Re-secure the fender liner
- Reposition the liner.
- Reinstall clips with the plastic trim clip removal tool (use it to press the clip pins in straight).
- Reinstall screws with the Phillips screwdriver.
- Reinstall bolts using a 10mm socket and 3/8" ratchet.
Step 8: If your RX has LED front turn signals
- If you cannot find a removable twist-lock bulb socket, the front turn signal is LED-integrated.
- On LED setups, the usual fix is replacing the headlamp assembly (or an LED module if separately serviced for your exact headlamp version).
- This typically requires front bumper cover removal; if you want, tell me whether your headlamps are LED and I’ll walk you through the correct service path.
âś… After Repair
- Verify both left and right turn signals flash at the same rate.
- Verify hazards, turn signals, and parking lights all work.
- If it “hyper-flashes” (very fast), re-check bulb seating and that you used an amber 7440A (not a clear 7440).
