🔧 Terrain - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Terrain’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housing. You’ll access the bulb socket from behind the headlight (usually through the front wheel-well liner), swap the bulb, then test the signals and hazards.

Assumption: Most 2016 Terrain front turn signal bulbs are 7444NA (amber); match the new bulb to the old one before installing.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Work on level ground and use jack stands if lifting the front.
  • ⚠️ Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before reaching near wiring.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if lights were recently on.
  • ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life).

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight
  • Floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Jack stands (rated 2-ton minimum)
  • Wheel chocks
  • 7mm socket
  • 1/4" drive ratchet
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Small flathead screwdriver

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber, 7444NA) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
  • Chock the rear wheels with wheel chocks.
  • Turn the steering wheel toward the side you’re working on (this opens space at the wheel well).
  • Tip: Do one side at a time.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Create access at the front wheel well

  • Use wheel chocks behind the rear tires.
  • If you want more room, lift that front corner using a floor jack and support it with jack stands.
  • Turn the steering wheel fully away from the side you’re working on (more hand room).

Step 2: Open the wheel-well liner (front section)

  • Use a 7mm socket with a 1/4" drive ratchet to remove the small screws along the front edge of the wheel-well liner.
  • Use a trim clip removal tool to pop out any plastic push-clips (a push-clip is a plastic fastener that “pins” panels together).
  • Gently pull the front of the liner back just enough to reach behind the headlight.
  • Tip: Don’t yank—liners crack in cold weather.

Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket

  • Use a flashlight to locate the turn signal socket on the back of the headlight (you’ll see a round socket with wires going into it).
  • Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn to unlock it, then pull it straight out.

Step 4: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
  • Install the new 7444NA (amber) bulb by pushing it straight in until fully seated.
  • Wear nitrile gloves to keep oils off the bulb.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket and liner

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight housing and rotate clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
  • Reposition the wheel-well liner.
  • Reinstall screws using a 7mm socket and reinstall clips using a trim clip removal tool (or press them in by hand if they’re push-pins).

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Repeat Steps 1-5 for the other front turn signal bulb.
  • Tip: Replacing both keeps brightness even.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition to ON (engine off is fine) and test the left and right turn signals.
  • Turn on the hazard flashers and confirm both front signals flash evenly.
  • If a bulb doesn’t work, remove the socket again and make sure the bulb is fully seated.
