🔧 Altima - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Altima’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlight housing. You’ll access them from under the hood, remove the bulb socket, swap the bulb, then test the turn signals and hazards.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn the light switch OFF and remove the key before starting.
- ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool if you recently drove (bulbs/housings can be hot).
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oil can shorten bulb life.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- Short extension (3")
- Trim clip remover
- Flashlight
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses

- Front turn signal bulb (amber) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2
📋 Before You Begin
- Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Have your flashlight ready so you can clearly see the back of the headlight housing.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Locate the turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight and look behind the headlight assembly (from the engine bay).
- Find the socket going into the headlight housing for the turn signal (it’s one of the smaller twist-in sockets).
Step 2: Make room (if access is tight)
- If your hand doesn’t fit, remove the nearby intake duct/cover fasteners using a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and short extension (3").
- If plastic clips are in the way, pop them up with a trim clip remover (this tool lifts the clip without breaking it).
- Only remove what you need for hand clearance.
Step 3: Remove the bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Grab the socket and rotate it about a 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand.
- Pull the socket straight out of the headlight housing.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in “wedge” style bulb).
- Push the new front turn signal bulb (amber) straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you touched the glass, wipe with rubbing alcohol.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the housing, making sure the tabs line up.
- Turn the socket clockwise about a 1/4 turn until it locks snugly (hand-tight only).
Step 6: Reinstall any parts you moved
- Reinstall any ducting/covers you loosened using the 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and short extension (3").
- Reinstall plastic clips with the trim clip remover (press the clip body in, then press the center pin down).
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Replace the bulb on the opposite headlight the same way.
- Replacing in pairs keeps brightness/color consistent.
✅ After Repair
- Turn the key to ON and test left and right turn signals.
- Turn on hazards and confirm both front signals flash evenly.
- If a bulb flashes fast, pull that socket back out and confirm the bulb is fully seated.
