🔧 Front Turn Signal Bulbs - Replacement

On your Equinox, the front turn signal bulbs are replaced from behind the headlamp housing. You’ll access the bulb socket, twist it out, swap the bulb, then reinstall and test both sides.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1 hour

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • The bulbs and headlamp housing can be hot if the lights were just on.
  • Do not touch the glass on a new halogen bulb with bare fingers.
  • Keep the key off while working near the front lighting harness.
  • If you need more room in the engine bay, disconnect the negative battery cable before starting.
  • Work on one side at a time.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Flathead screwdriver
  • 7mm socket
  • 1/4-inch ratchet
  • Trim clip removal tool
  • Gloves
  • Safety glasses

🔩 Required Parts

  • Front turn signal bulb - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlights and ignition off.
  • If the lamp area is tight, turn the front wheels away from the side you are servicing for better access.
  • Let the lamps cool first.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Open up access to the bulb area

  • Open the hood.
  • If needed, use the 7mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet to remove any upper air duct or small plastic retainers that block access near the headlamp.
  • If the wheel opening gives better access, use the flathead screwdriver or trim clip removal tool to gently move any splash shield fasteners out of the way.

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Reach behind the headlamp assembly and locate the turn signal bulb socket.
  • Twist the socket counterclockwise with your hand and pull it straight out.
  • Do not force the socket.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Remove the old bulb from the socket.
  • Install the new front turn signal bulb into the socket.
  • Make sure the bulb is fully seated and straight.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing.
  • Twist it clockwise until it locks in place.
  • If you removed any trim or ducting, reinstall it now with the 7mm socket and 1/4-inch ratchet.

Step 5: Test the new bulb

  • Turn the ignition on.
  • Activate the left and right turn signals one at a time.
  • Confirm both front signals flash normally.
  • If one does not work, remove the socket and check bulb seating again.

✅ After Repair

  • Check that the turn signal indicator on the dash flashes at a normal rate.
  • Verify the turn signal lens is secure and the area is sealed.
  • If you removed any clips or covers, make sure they are fully reinstalled.
