🔧 Tucson - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Tucson’s front turn signal bulb sits in the back of the headlamp housing. The job is usually done from under the hood by twisting the bulb socket out, swapping the bulb, and reinstalling everything.
Assumption: Bulb type can vary by headlamp; match the part number printed on your old bulb (common types are amber “A” bulbs).
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- ⚠️ Turn lights OFF and let the headlamp cool before touching anything.
- ⚠️ Wear gloves—skin oil can shorten bulb life and hot bulbs can burn you.
- ⚠️ Don’t touch the glass of the new bulb; hold it by the base.
- ⚠️ Battery disconnect is not required, but keep the key away from the car while working.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- Safety glasses
- Nitrile gloves
- Flashlight
- Trim clip removal tool
- Phillips #2 screwdriver
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- 6" socket extension
🔩 Required Parts
HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:
- Front turn signal bulb (amber, match old bulb number) - Qty: 2
- Dielectric grease - Qty: 1
đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Turn the steering wheel away from the side you’re working on to create more hand room behind the headlamp.
- Open the hood and use a flashlight to locate the rear of the headlamp assembly.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Identify the turn signal socket
- Use a flashlight and look behind the headlamp assembly for the turn signal bulb socket (usually an outer/rear socket compared to the low/high beam).
- If unsure, turn hazards on briefly to confirm.
Step 2: Create access (only if your hands don’t fit)
- If an intake duct or cover blocks access, remove fasteners using a 10mm socket with a 1/4" ratchet and 6" socket extension.
- If there are plastic push-clips, pop them up using a trim clip removal tool (this tool lifts the clip without breaking it).
- If there are screws, remove them with a Phillips #2 screwdriver.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about a quarter turn.
- Pull the socket straight back out of the headlamp.
Step 4: Remove the old bulb
- Pull the bulb straight out of the socket (some styles need a slight twist; if it won’t pull, gently twist and pull).
- Check the bulb number printed on the metal/plastic base and match it to your replacement.
Step 5: Install the new bulb
- Install the new bulb into the socket fully seated (straight push, or twist-lock depending on the bulb base).
- Apply a tiny amount of dielectric grease to the socket seal if it looks dry. (Dielectric grease helps keep moisture out.)
- Do not smear grease on the bulb glass.
Step 6: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp.
- Turn clockwise until it locks snugly by hand (do not over-tighten).
Step 7: Reassemble anything you removed
- Reinstall ducts/covers using the 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" socket extension.
- Reinstall any clips using the trim clip removal tool to align them, then press them in by hand.
- Torque: If you removed small 10mm bolts for plastic brackets/ducting, snug them only—these are light fasteners and can strip if over-tightened.
âś… After Repair
- Turn ignition ON and test left and right turn signals, then hazards.
- Verify blink rate is normal (a very fast blink usually means a bulb isn’t seated or the wrong bulb type was installed).
- Check that the bulb socket is fully locked to help prevent moisture in the headlamp.
