Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
ā ļø Safety & Precautions
- ā ļø Let the headlights cool first; bulbs and housings can be hot.
- ā ļø Turn ignition OFF and lights OFF before unplugging any bulb sockets.
- ā ļø Donāt touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life. Use gloves.
- ā ļø Battery disconnect is not required for this repair.

- Open the hood and support it securely.
- Lay a towel over nearby plastic trim if you tend to bump tools (helps prevent scuffs).
šØ Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Make room to reach behind the headlight
- Use a flashlight to locate the back of the headlight assembly on the side youāre working on.
- If your hands donāt fit comfortably, remove the front air duct/snorkel near the radiator support:
- Use a trim clip removal tool (a forked tool that pops plastic fasteners out) or flat-blade screwdriver to lift the center of the plastic push-clips, then remove the clips.
- If there are 10mm bolts holding the duct/bracket, remove them with a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension.
- Tip: Put clips/bolts in a cup.
Step 2: (Passenger side) Move the washer filler neck if it blocks access
- If the windshield washer filler neck is in the way, grip it and gently work it upward while twisting by hand to pull it out of its grommet.
- Set it aside without kinking any hoses.
- Use nitrile gloves and safety glasses while working in tight spaces.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- From behind the headlight, find the turn signal socket (a round twist-in socket going into the headlight housing).
- Turn the socket counterclockwise about a quarter turn to unlock it, then pull it straight back.
- If itās tight, use your gloved hand for better grip; avoid prying hard on the headlight housing.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new 7440A / amber bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- Tip: Donāt touch the bulb glass.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlight housing, making sure the tabs line up.
- Turn the socket clockwise to lock it (snug by hand; no tools needed).
Step 6: Reinstall anything you moved
- Reinstall the washer filler neck (passenger side) by pressing it back into its grommet until fully seated.
- Reinstall the air duct/snorkel and any brackets.
- Reinstall push-clips by pushing the outer body in first, then pressing the center pin down.
- If you removed 10mm bolts, reinstall them with a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 6" extension (snug; do not over-tighten into plastic).
Step 7: Repeat on the other side
- Repeat Steps 1ā6 for the other front turn signal so both bulbs match in brightness and color.
ā After Repair
- Turn the ignition to ON and test left and right turn signals.
- Turn on the hazard lights and confirm both front signals flash evenly.
- If the dash indicator āfast blinks,ā that usually means a bulb isnāt seated, the wrong bulb type was installed, or a bulb is out.
