🔧 Altima - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
You’ll remove the old front turn signal bulb(s) and install new amber bulbs. This fixes a burned-out signal and prevents fast “hyperflash” blinking that happens when a bulb is out.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.5-1.0 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🧤 Work on a level surface and let the headlight area cool first.
- 🧼 Do not touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oils can shorten bulb life); hold it by the base.
- 🧯 If you raise the car, support it with jack stands before reaching into the wheel well.
- 🔦 Keep the key off and lights off while unplugging any bulb sockets.

📋 Before You Begin
- 🅿️ Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- 🧱 Place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
- 🔧 If you’ll use the wheel-well access method, loosen the front wheel lug nuts 1/2 turn before lifting.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm which front bulb is out
- Turn the ignition to ON and use the turn signal stalk to test left and right.
- Turn the hazards ON to check both sides at once, then turn everything OFF.
Step 2: Choose your access method
- Most Altima front turn signal bulbs are accessed from behind the headlamp through the wheel well liner.
- If you can clearly reach the turn signal socket from the engine bay behind the headlamp, you may not need to lift the car.
- Wheel-well access is usually easiest.
Step 3: Lift the front corner (wheel-well method)
- Use a 21mm lug nut socket and breaker bar (1/2") to loosen the lug nuts (do not remove yet).
- Use a floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) to lift the front corner at a safe jacking point.
- Set the car onto jack stands (pair, rated 2-ton minimum) before working.
- Remove the wheel using the 21mm lug nut socket.
Step 4: Pull back the front fender liner
- Use a trim clip removal tool to remove the plastic push clips along the front portion of the liner.
- If equipped with screws, remove them with a Phillips screwdriver #2 or a 10mm socket and ratchet (1/4" or 3/8").
- Pull the liner back enough to reach behind the headlamp.
- A trim clip tool is a small forked pry tool that pops plastic clips out without breaking them.
Step 5: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Use a flashlight to locate the turn signal socket on the back of the headlamp.
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn by hand, then pull it straight out.
- If space is tight, reposition the liner more rather than forcing the socket.
Step 6: Replace the bulb
- Wear nitrile gloves.
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Push the new front turn signal bulb (amber) straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you touched the glass, wipe it clean.
Step 7: Reinstall the socket and secure the liner
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp and rotate clockwise to lock by hand.
- Reposition the liner and reinstall clips using the trim clip removal tool.
- If you removed screws/bolts, reinstall using a Phillips screwdriver #2 or 10mm socket and ratchet (1/4" or 3/8").
Step 8: Reinstall the wheel (if removed)
- Install lug nuts by hand first.
- Lower the car using the floor jack (rated 2-ton minimum) and remove the jack stands (pair, rated 2-ton minimum).
- Tighten lug nuts in a star pattern using the 21mm lug nut socket.
- Torque to 113 Nm (83 ft-lbs).
✅ After Repair
- 🚦 Test left/right turn signals and hazard lights.
- 🔁 Confirm the blink rate is normal (no hyperflash).
- 🔎 Make sure the fender liner is fully secured and not rubbing the tire.
