🔧 Tahoe - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your Tahoe’s front turn signal bulbs sit in the back of the headlamp housings. You’ll access them from under the hood, twist the bulb socket out, swap the bulb, and test both sides.

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.6 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • Turn the ignition OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • Let the headlamp area cool if the lights were recently on (bulbs can burn you).
  • Don’t touch the new bulb glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Safety glasses
  • Nitrile gloves
  • Flashlight

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (amber 3157A) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

đź“‹ Before You Begin

  • Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • Turn the headlight switch to OFF.
  • Open the hood and use a flashlight to see behind the headlamp housings.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Locate the turn signal bulb socket

  • Put on safety glasses and nitrile gloves.
  • From under the hood, look behind the headlamp housing on the side you’re replacing (use a flashlight).
  • Find the turn signal/park light socket (a round plastic “twist-lock” socket). Twist-lock means it locks by turning.

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Grip the socket and rotate it about a quarter-turn counterclockwise by hand.
  • Pull the socket straight out of the headlamp housing.

Step 3: Replace the bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket by hand.
  • Install the new amber 3157A bulb by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • If you accidentally touch the bulb glass, wipe it clean and dry before installing.

Step 4: Reinstall the socket

  • Line up the socket tabs with the housing slots.
  • Push the socket in and rotate it clockwise about a quarter-turn until it locks.

Step 5: Repeat on the other side

  • Use the flashlight and repeat Steps 1–4 for the other front turn signal.

âś… After Repair

  • Turn the ignition to ON and test left and right turn signals.
  • Turn on parking lights and verify both front bulbs light evenly.
  • If a signal flashes fast, re-check that the bulb is fully seated and the socket is locked in place.
