🔧 Camry - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement
Your Camry’s front turn signal bulbs sit inside the headlamp assemblies and can usually be replaced from behind (from the engine bay) without removing the headlight.
You’ll remove the bulb socket, swap the bulb, then test the turn signals and hazards to confirm everything works.
Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.8 hours
⚠️ Safety & Precautions
- 🧤 Let the headlights cool before reaching behind them.
- đź‘“ Wear safety glasses; tight areas can snap clips free.
- Do not touch the bulb glass with bare fingers (skin oil can shorten bulb life). If you do, wipe with rubbing alcohol and a clean towel.
- No hybrid high-voltage components are involved for this job; keep tools and hands away from orange high-voltage cables anyway.
- Battery disconnect is not required.
🔧 Required Tools
You'll need the following tools for this repair:
- 10mm socket
- 1/4" ratchet
- 3" socket extension
- Trim clip removal tool
- Flathead screwdriver
- Flashlight
- Nitrile gloves
- Safety glasses

đź“‹ Before You Begin
- Park on level ground, shift to Park, and set the parking brake.
- Turn the steering wheel straight and switch the ignition OFF.
- Open the hood and use a flashlight to locate the rear of each headlamp assembly.
🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions
Follow these steps in order:
Step 1: Confirm the correct bulb location
- Turn the ignition ON briefly and switch on the left and right turn signals (or hazards) to confirm which side is out.
- Turn the ignition OFF again before working behind the headlight.
Step 2: Create access behind the headlamp (if needed)
- If access is tight on the passenger side, remove the washer filler neck bolt using a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 3" socket extension, then move the neck slightly aside.
- If access is tight on the driver side, loosen/remove the air intake snorkel clips using a trim clip removal tool or flathead screwdriver, then lift the snorkel out of the way.
- Tip: Only move parts enough to reach the socket.
Step 3: Remove the turn signal bulb socket
- Put on nitrile gloves and use a flashlight to find the turn signal socket at the rear of the headlamp.
- Grip the socket and rotate it counterclockwise about 1/4 turn to unlock it, then pull it straight out.
Step 4: Replace the bulb
- Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket.
- Install the new front turn signal bulb (amber) by pushing it straight into the socket until fully seated.
- If you accidentally touch the bulb glass, clean it before installing.
Step 5: Reinstall the socket
- Insert the socket back into the headlamp housing, making sure it sits flat.
- Rotate the socket clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks.
Step 6: Reinstall any removed components
- Reinstall the washer filler neck bolt using a 10mm socket, 1/4" ratchet, and 3" socket extension (snug it; do not overtighten).
- Reinstall any intake snorkel clips using a trim clip removal tool or flathead screwdriver.
Step 7: Test operation
- Turn the ignition ON and test left/right turn signals and hazards.
- Walk around the front to confirm correct blinking and brightness.
âś… After Repair
- Verify both front turn signals blink at a normal speed (fast blinking usually means a bulb is still out somewhere).
- Check that the bulb socket is fully locked (a loose socket can let moisture into the headlamp).
- If the new bulb doesn’t work, recheck the bulb seating and socket lock-in.
