🔧 Camry - Front Turn Signal Bulb Replacement

Your front turn signal bulb sits inside the headlight housing. Replacing it usually takes just a few minutes per side and restores proper signaling (and avoids tickets or unsafe driving).

Difficulty Level: Beginner | Estimated Time: 0.3-0.7 hours

⚠️ Safety & Precautions

  • ⚠️ Turn the lights OFF and remove the key before starting.
  • ⚠️ Let the headlight area cool for 10-15 minutes if recently on.
  • ⚠️ Don’t touch the new bulb’s glass with bare fingers; skin oils can shorten bulb life.
  • ⚠️ Wear safety glasses—tight spaces can pop clips loose.

🔧 Required Tools

You'll need the following tools for this repair:

  • Nitrile gloves
  • Safety glasses
  • Flashlight
  • Small flat trim tool

🔩 Required Parts

HowToo sells all the parts you need for this repair:

  • Front turn signal bulb (7440A amber) - Replace in pairs - Qty: 2

📋 Before You Begin

  • 🅿️ Park on level ground and set the parking brake.
  • 💡 Turn the headlight/turn signal switch to OFF.
  • 🔦 Have a flashlight ready so you can see behind the headlight.

🔨 Step-by-Step Instructions

Follow these steps in order:

Step 1: Find the turn signal bulb socket

  • Open the hood.
  • Use a flashlight to look behind the headlight assembly on the side you’re replacing.
  • Locate the turn signal socket (it’s a twist-lock socket going into the headlight housing).

Step 2: Remove the bulb socket

  • Put on nitrile gloves and safety glasses.
  • Grip the socket and rotate it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise by hand, then pull it straight out.
  • If it’s stuck, use a small flat trim tool gently to help you start the rotation. Don’t pry on the plastic lens.

Step 3: Remove the old bulb

  • Pull the old bulb straight out of the socket (it’s a push-in style).

Step 4: Install the new bulb

  • With nitrile gloves on, push the new 7440A amber bulb straight into the socket until fully seated.
  • If you accidentally touch the glass, wipe it clean and dry before installing.

Step 5: Reinstall the socket

  • Insert the socket back into the headlight housing.
  • Twist clockwise about 1/4 turn until it locks in place.

Step 6: Repeat on the other side

  • Replace the other front turn signal bulb the same way. Pairs help match brightness and color.

✅ After Repair

  • ✅ Turn the key to ON and test left and right turn signals.
  • ✅ Verify the turn signal flashes at a normal speed (fast flashing usually means a bulb isn’t working or isn’t seated).
  • ✅ Walk around the Camry and confirm the front signal is amber and bright.
